I'm sure most of us have several other hobbies other than Oakley collecting. What are your holy grails and crown jewels of your other hobbies.

For those who don't know, crown jewels are something you own and represent the pinnacle of your current collection. Holy grails are something you hope to attain one day, no matter how remote the odds.

Why do you always have good thread ideas, Oak ? ^_^

The other hobby being Photography, let's talk about cameras and lenses.

Well, as a Crown Jewel, my D7000 Nikon camera takes the 1st place.

Regarding Holy Grail, it has to be a D3s (at least as long as this latest one isn't replaced by a new one) + a 400mm f/2.8 or 600 f/4

Have to join Francios,

crown Jewel - Nikon D700 (the D3s legitimate child)

Holy Grail - Nikkor 70-200m f2.8 - Yummy.

a few yrs back it would have been all Home Theatre related, now since i work with it every day, nothing excites me about it.

My crown jewel would probably be my vintage comic book collection, which includes mid-range grades of nearly all first appearances of major Marvel characters.

My holy grail would be a Batmobile Tumbler, whether screen used or a replica. Or a Patek Phillipe Sky Moon Tourbillon watch. Either one would make me smile.

My Holy Grail is an Audi R8.

Other than that, I pretty much have everything I want.

Crown Jewel would have to be my Gibson Billie Joe Armstrong Signature Les Paul Junior.

One day I'd love to get my hands on a vintage '56 or '57 TV Yellow or Sunburst Les Paul Junior.

I would love to have a McFarlane cover one day. They're a tad steep nowadays (the one below is $55k), but I'M committed to getting one someday.

Been getting into movie props lately. While I'm mostly into the licensed and fan-made stuff, I wouldn't mind any of these:

Hard to justify $300k on a car that can't be driven in public view (LOL) or finding room for a 17-foot statue, but I suppose it's a grail for a reason; gotta dream big.

I also collect player issue guernseys of my football team here in Aus...player issues obviously being guernseys made for the actual player. They sublimate the number on the back (the number is printed onto the fabric like the sponsor logos, not added on afterwards), so you can tell player issues quite easily.

I've made a website of my collection here:

Crown Jewel would have to be the 2000 Away Number 10 - the design that got me interested in guernseys in the first place. The design is actually reviled by most West Coast Eagle fans, but I love it.

Holy Grail is a 1997 Away player issue, never seen one come up on eBay, and it's basically the only design left that I haven't got.

There's a few collectors out there for this specific team so it drives prices up on eBay, really annoying as it used to be only me back in 2004-2005!

Any one of the pieces in the following link would be a grail for me (especially the first two, which I'd be shocked if they pulled less than $500k each):

Wow, that original art for Spider-man #1 would be amazing. Such an iconic picture.

Does any of his original Spawn art get out much?

Yeah, there are some floating out there, but the good stuff (covers and splash pages) is in hardcore collector hands, friends/acquaintance of Todd, or Todd himself. Basically the good stuff rarely comes to the market.

Some awesome stuff there. Love Spider #1, the Wolverine Jim Lee cover and Venom cover. I have Venom Lethal Protector #1 - not the original illustration though. Ha.

Well, I'm shocked. The Amazing Spider-Man #328 cover pulled in $657k, which is in line with what I thought it'd bring, but the Spider-man #1 cover, the more iconic and seminal of the two, brought in a mere $385k. Go figure.

Todd Mcfarlane covers are getting more out of reach by the day. This one's offered for $110k and well out of my price range:

The following has been offered to me for $48k, but yeah, a little too much as well:

Beautiful stuff, however.
