Hi. Thanks for accepting me as a member but I want to be honest right up front. I recently purchased my first pair of Oakley's, an older pair M frame, Gen 2. My concern is that they are fakes. I think I have exhausted all avenues of research, including contacting Oakley, without satisfactory results so I have turned to this forum for help. If this is not an appropriate use of this forum please let me know and I will withdraw.Thanks.

It's a perfect use. Pictures would be best, but if you can describe anything that is posing a concern, we can work with that too.

I'm glad to know that. Based on my research the arm of the M Frame Gen 2 was enhanced at the hinge for reinforcement due to breakage issues with the Gen 1. So the arm, starting at the hinge, was tapered all the way back to the first bend as opposed to the Gen 1 where the taper stops about halfway. The pair I have has the Gen 2 icon at the temple but does not have the enhanced arm. I admit my research may be faulty. Also, the frame has a metallic black/green color that I have not found on any of the other frames I have seen. Do I have something special or just a dud?

Yeah, there's a few things that jump out. The Metallic Green color would most closely resemble 'Joker', but that came out on the Eye Jacket, and even took a further generation late into the 90's to move to a polished finish rather than matte. You're correct about the hinges, so good call. Even without seeing the icon, they have the 'fangs' or the tips that extend past the ear socks. But with the un-reenforced hinge, they don't match. Also on the lens, the logo is laser etched, not screen printed. There are a few gaps here and there that reveal the lower quality of the build as well.

Thanks, Dann. I had had a feeling this was one of those, "too good to be true" scenarios. But I did learn a lot in the process.

If nothing else, you can say that you at least got something for your money - first hand knowledge on what a Foakley looks like and how to spot it. Unfortunately, I also learned the same way; I bit on a few duds before I finally figured it out. But now I have much more awareness and I hope that you do as well. Please don't let that discourage you from future grabs. I am sure that once you get your hands on a real one, you will be glad you did.

I guess we all had our share of negative surprises... Welcome to the forum.
