This may sound weird but how many of you guys buy yourself an Oakleys and never use it and just put it on display?

How about buy it and never OPEN it, therefore you never see it and you just put it away in a sealed state?

I know of one other member here at the review aside from me who has done the same.

Call it weird or stupid because we buy it to enjoy it/wear it and not just leave it in the sealed box.

Well, in my opinion it's going to be worth a lot more as time goes by as long as it stays in that sealed state. Just imagine, how much would this Brand New Sealed in Box Juliet Ruby go for in Ebay nowadays?

I am not planning to sell it anytime soon nor even open it. I will just wait another 30 years or so and find out what happens =)

Cal, you're nuts! =)
no... not really. i have a few limited Matchbox cars in blister packs i've never opened, and also a few limited edition CD's still in shrink wrap, so i difinitely see your point. but i can't do that with my Oakleys though...

Yoko, looks who's talking? "Black w/ Ruby"

Bong, I wish I would have done the same for my Transformers but as a kid you just cannot resist not openning your toys.
How did you do that as a kid, that's more nuts!

I buy 'em to wear 'em, but that's just me.

I get my stuff for free anyway, so maybe my POV is a little different.

matchbox cars weren't too expensive back then... so when some particularly nice models came out, i'd buy two.
i can't even remember how expensive Transformers were back then. i had an Optimus Prime once, full kit with trailer, rover, and gun... like most kids the gun and rover were the first to become missing. i have no idea where the rest of Prime is right now, i prolly chucked it out in the trash a long time ago.

but like Neil, i buy Oakleys to wear them. some just get worn more often than others.

One maybe a "beater" pair for everyday use and one for display or special occasions.

I still buy hotwheels cars - and I have to open them....then I give'em to my nephew.....It's like action figures...have to have them, then once I open them I have no use for them....it's an obvious illness that my young nephew obviously has no issue with....

My boys are too old for toys now - but man I love toys....so if I can buy'em, open'em and then give'em to a kid that wants'em - to me thats a good deal....I would have killed to have an uncle like me when I was little....

Plus - my O illness has limited my expenditures in other areas....

I still haven't transformed my 20th year Annivesary Edition Optimus Prime so I am highly considering buying a used one so I can at least Play with it a little.

Well, what I buy I use to the fullest; you just have to be careful. Life is too short, I am proud of the O and I display it.

You guys are nuts :P But I understand the collector mentality of it, its just that in 30 years or even another 10, the Juliet is gonna be irrelevant.

Other companies and Other models from Oakley will have come out, I know you guys are not keeping it all to sell it latter, and it will be worth a lot of cash for sure.

But the crazyness of the Ruby and such will only be for collectors by that time I think.

Look at all the older models, zero m frame frogskins, even in their original boxes on Ebay, they sell for about the same price they were sold back in the day, a little bit higher or a lot of times lower.

In 10 years, I bet a pair of juliet ruby is gonna be worth 300, 400 $ sealed if a collector gets it.

Yeah that maybe true 90% of the time, but a vintage product is only worth what people are prepaired to pay for it.
I think most collectors only collect for the love of it.
Thinking that it might be worth something in years to come, is just a bonus.

Well the Wildberry n' Milk Frogskins that recently sold for $200 shows that people DO know what these older models are, and seem to be fine paying the cash for an older model.

You'll see that as more and more people join groups like ours, prices will slowing creep upwards. All it really needs is more people.

The Optimus Prime figure looks great. I was thinking of getting my myself but never followed through. Back in the day, I used to have 3/4 of all the Transformers put out across all the generations (the original ones, anyway, and none of the variations) until one day I got the bright idea to take them to the back yard and play golf with them. Now the only ones I have left are Blaster, a few of the Soundwave tapes, and some misc others.

My opinion... they're just sunglasses. The ruby craze will die, some other color like OO Blue will take off, and the cycle will continue. But hey, that's just what I think, so don't put too much stock in it.

Think about the X-Metals feelings! They're sitting in their box thinking "I feel so proud that I am one of the best pairs of sunglasses ever! I will faithfully protect my new owners eyes from the harmful effects of the sun & make them look soooo good! I can't wait!" Several months pass... "OK, any day now I will be unveiled & fulfil my destiny!" Several more months pass & by this time they have started scratching their own lenses as a means of dealing with the anger & sadness....It could happen!!

Cal Shawn-Ray, and Bong? u guys show the signs of true collector. the sealed ruby juliet u got is so cool Cal!!

i myself can't do that. i've tried on even the pair of oakley i reserved to sit and be a collector's item. i got it used, but in very-very mint frame condition and never wear it outside though..

on another different collector's item subject, i got a friend and his brother who collects formula one replicas/die-cast from minichamps and bbr, and some exoto studio ones. both of them has their own double cabinets in two different house. they collect items that are rare ones or specific themed such as, complete schummy cars from 90s till now, complete world champions since the 70s(or before that, can't remember), etc2.

If it hasn't been openned since the seal/packaging day, why open it now? I have another pair of Ruby Juliets I get to wear and enjoy everyday. This one can wait a long long time. =)

Paul, i don't have a sealed Ruby Juliet, i wish i did! LOL.
every Oakley i own, they've seen use outdoors one way or another. some just get more used than others.

my brother collects 1:18 scale cars from AutoArt and Kyosho. i think he's got a few Exotos as well. there's model cars everywhere!

Todd, some time ago i've read this theory about people who believe in life in inanimate objects... i'm gonna have to dig that out. so... do your Oakleys talk to you?
