I just went to order a pair of RX Thread 6.0, is it possible to have Oakley prescription clear lenses put in them? My eye doctor said I could only order the frame, and that I had to have polycarb lenses cut and put in, so they will be non-oakley lenses. ALso I'm getting charged $90 for generic lenses, I was under the impression that Oakley frames would come with Oakley lenses, anyone have any idea if this is possible, also what is the cost verses the $90 for generic? Thanks for the help!

Rx frames, are just the frames. They come with blanks to start. You can get Oakley lenses in clear or any other color they support, but they run a few hundred.

A few hundred? Geez, and I thought $90 for generic lenses was crazy, I have a weak prescription (-2.0) but I guess that doesn't matter. I'm new to the Rx world, but for some reason had it in my head that clear Rx Oakley lenses should be around $100, guess I was wrong....thanks!

230 bucks will be the cheapest you could get.

and we're talking $230 for just the lenses correct? Or are you including frame prices in there?

Clear is 170
+$10 for non-Iridium Color
+$30 for A/R
+$35 for Iridium
+$45 for Premium Iridium (Emerald, Fire)
+$30 for rimless
+$40 for polarized
+$100 for transitions
+$160-165 for progressive.

add each one up.
Emerald Iridium, A/R Progressive Transition in a rimless frame is $530! plus frame

I paid a pretty penny for my generic poly lenses, of course, they've got anti-reflect x 3, anti-scratch, and corner-to-corner focus (ie XYZ optics).

i am interested ordering a pair of rx wires or some kind. can you order direct if you fax the rx info to them or do you have to go to a selling optometrist?

Thank you, Dann for posting those prices, even I found it after a longer time.
I always wonder why do the RX lenses cost so much over here compared to the US prices?
I also would like to know if it's possible to make a pair of RX lenses into a desired frame and let delivered to me? For example I'd like to have a clear lens for my A-Wire? Can it be done by giving the necessary data?

It's no problem as long as the frame is prescription ready and your prexcription isn't below -4. I have an A wire 2.0 with clear Rx lenses from Oakley and they rock

My current prescription lenses are both -1.75, so it shouldn't be a problem. I bought my A-Wire in 2004 as a normal sunglass. Do they differ from the RX-ready versions?

A Wire came in two versions: as a sunglass frame, with a base 8 frontal curve and as an opthalmic frame, with a base 6 frontal curve. Having Rx lenses mounted in your (sunglass) frame shouldn't be a problem.

Clear AR is 265,- euro / pair in Europe.

Thank you for your answer, Ed.
What does it mean 6 and 8 frontal? I'm kinda laic in this topic.

The degree of curvature of the lens

Indeed. The higher the basecurve, the more curved the (frontal piece of the) frame is. Higher curves have more limitations to the max. prescription.

Does this pricing structure, posted by Dann, still hold as of today? I remember the guy at an O-Store mentioning prescription starts at $170 for clear.

Thanks!

Pretty much, based on the last couple of rx purchases I have helped family and friends with recently (in the past year).
