I am going to the AT&T Wireless store to try and buy one. Anyone else?

i want one but the plan in calgary is outragous so there is no way i am going to spend that much a month just to have one but they are cool.

I hopefully will have my paws on one if my friend comes through.

not until I find out more about its durability. I've had at least 4 iPods die on me, and I'm pretty careful with them. I expect my cellphone to be durable. Plus, I've got a smartphone and I never use the connectivity (gmail doesn't have imap)

I have someone on the in side that offered to sell me one or two to flip on ebay...I passed, I have no time for that. Busey weekend planned, Curious to see how these hold up too.

It is cool, but i don't consider the Iphone a cell phone. it's more as an asseccory.

just like a 1st gen PS3, Xbox 360, iPod, etc, it will have bugs, so it's best to wait.

I just played with one yesterday. I was not impressed at all. I like my 8525 much better.

Just too gimmicky for mine.. and it's got a couple of glaring ommissions, like stereo Bluetooth and no 3G support etc.

I'm going to try it out today. I'm not too excited about 8 GB but we'll see.

My son got one...pretty cool actually. Although I wonder about durability...

The iPhone is really not worth half the price Steve is charging for it. You'll need to sign a 2-year contract to get an iPhone and you won't even get a discount on it. It's $500 or $600 no matter what. With the 8525 you get it for half the price on a 2-year contract and get at least 3x the functionality.

Here's the lowdown on the iPhone:
- Battery has approximately 5 hours of use (this is with mixed use of the phone, internet and video player)
- Battery, like all other Apple products, is completely internal so there's no swapping out for a freshly charged battery...and imagine the pain when your battery finally stops holding a charge
- The phone is currently not compatible with Cingular/at&t's MEdia Net, therefore cannot download ringtones, Games, Cool Tools, etc. In addition, there is not even any current ringtone alternatives than what's presently on the phone. Supposedly, iTunes will be making a ringtone service available at a later date
- The iPhone is not a 3G (third generation GSM) device, which means that it cannot use the broadband-like internet network (UMTS/HSDPA) but will only work with the GPRS/EDGE network
- From my understanding, you will not be able to install additional programs to the phone as you would a Windows Mobile phone for added features or functionality (at least currently, anyway)
- The phone does not have MMS (multimedia or picture/video messaging) capabilities; pictures can be sent through email only

This does not even include personal preferences/nuances like how much harder it is for some (like me and my friends) to have to rely only on the on-screen keyboard and not be able to have an actual keyboard at your disposal - typing is cumbersome and somewhat difficult for us, and I don't exactly have large fingers...I'd say average sized.

Seriously folks, the only reason for anyone to consider an iPhone is if you're an avid Mac user, and nothing else will do. And even then, if there's certain functionalities you need on a phone/PDA, it may not cut it for you.

You are a clueless teenager that is already smarter than his parents and the rest of the whole world - and a Mac user...

I tried - good luck arguing with that...

I gather a good number of people will use it for 3 main functions.

1. Simply as a Phone
2. as an iPod
3. as a Photo Viewer/camera

and do it with one piece of hardware, saves carrying 3.

Not everybody will use the all the internet/MMS/gprs..stuff
but they will use the 3 core functions listed above, and they will pay good money to do so.

As for me it's a no brainer, i'll get the 3G version when it comes out, about the same time they will release it here in Oz, till then I'll use my Razr.
and to add Yukio does make a good point.
The fact that they lock you into AT&T so tightly would scare me off.
Even an iPod using only iTunes doesn't lock you in... you can always still buy CD's and listen to them on your iPod.

With the iPhone it is useless till activated on the AT&T network, then if you want to travel overseas with it and say buy a Pre-paid SIM card in another country to use local call rates instead of international you can't because it is Locked to AT&T

Sorry APPLE great Phone but crap distribution and limitations.

Never owned a cell phone, and likely never will. I could not possibly care less about this thing.

My nephew who works for ATT said their store had 70 iphones:
50 large hd, 20 small hd, they had people sitting outside the night before rollout friday!!
They are suppose to be on "auto order", IE: when 1 is sold another gets ordered to fill inventory, they sold 65 friday and received only 2 saturday, so much for auto shipment. From what he tells me, it has exactly Yukio stated abouv; kewl new toy w/ipod and loyal mac users will follow...not cheap either. Time will tell.

I tried it out yesterday. I was there for about an hour. Its impressive but not for long. I definitely don't think its worth the high price. My biggest problem with it was the keyboard. It wasn't very accurate and I constantly had to use the backspace button which caused problems because of the inaccuracy of the keyboard in trying to backspace. Out of the 10 iphones on the table to play with there were at least 3 of them that kept freezing up. I was honestly considering the iphone but I think I will wait for improvements. The lack of 3G is another big con.

Ok I will give you guys the fact that the edge network is slower than others, but playing with the phone I was not disappointed by it. I didn't think that it was unusable or even "slow" per say. I never thought "god why is it taking so long? I didn't think download time was any longer, as a matter of fact, because of the simple layout I was able to access websites etc. quicker because I didn't have to fight with the interface, it worked with me.

It's an extremely well integrated piece of equipment, which any Mac user (including myself) knows, that's 90% of what makes Apple products superior to thier PC counterparts. Are macs the fastest on the market? No. Do they have every single piece of software available that ou can get for a pc?Again no. Is OSX the best OS I have ever used? Hell yes! is the iPhone have the most brilliantly designed interface on ANY handheld device? Well, it has OSX, enough said.

Haters remember, there is always something to criticize about a fantastic product, but the iPhone offers way more to love than the miniscule complaints I've seen here. Power users may not be happy with the EDGE network speed, but in my experience Power users aren't happy with anything 100% anyway.

Why should I pay the price of f.e. a Nokia phone with 3.2 mp, UMTS, changeable akkus and, of course, Symbian OS and a Card slot (etc. etc.) TWICE to just have a apple product that only has a awesome touchscreen (it recognizes more than one touch at a time!) when it comes to inventions/features?

Releasing a 2 mp Camera phone with a not expandable memory (wow, it has OSX! And I like OSX. But who needs OSX when the memory is not expandable?!), a crappy, non changeable akku and without UMTS in 2007 means just to release a outdated cell phone. But hey - the mac fans are flipping and Jobs produced another hype. Now that apple invented the touchscreen/mp3 cell phone I'm waiting for the first ipod watch (well, the first mp3-watch ever - ask nike) or the unbelievable idea to combine the ipod with some sunglasses. The first mp3-sunglasses ever! Now that would be awesome - Steve, go get that cake!

i have to admit the iPhone is an impressive piece of kit, but when it all comes down to it, it depends on personal preference.

it seems to be targeted to those needing internet browsing, email, etc. and multimedia (or more like iTunes only formats) functions. i like the iPhone's music storage and (probably) intuitive multimedia interface, but don't like the problematic touchscreen and not-so-useful camera functions. for such an expensive piece of equipment, i'd rather see at least a 3.2 MP camera with auto-focus, and a lens protector. also, having music functions on a phone is nice and all, but having so many functions in a small package like a mobile phone isn't going to yield the best sound quality. that's important to me but of course, that's personal preference.

what i'm looking in a phone is something that is easy to make calls (i've tried so many phones with touchscreens and it's just not convenient when you want to make a quick call, especially when the touchscreens aren't sensitive enough or intuitive to touch, and when sunlight basically drowns out the display), at least a 2.0 MP camera with auto-focus (not fixed lens like the iPhone or many other phones have), and a removable card slot so you can easily download photos to your comp through a card reader instead of connecting the phone to a USB port. a multimedia player is a must too, and something that will allow you to use your own headphones while maintaining use of the hands-free functions. so far only Sony Ericsson phones meet my needs, so i'll still be pining for a K800 or even the new K850 (5.0 MP Camera!!) but for now, i'll stick with my beloved SE W800 walkman phone.
