An enjoyable enough film let down by the plot and features being confused whether it wants be a fantasy or reality. It tries to ground itself in reality by depicting events that are possible but detaches itself from reality quickly enough to improve its visual style. It attempts to introduce "L33T" culture to the mainstream audience but it fails to capture the culture fully, misrepresenting an entire sub-culture in the process.

Those criticisms aside the set-pieces are very well put-together with a cyber-punk feel to the visuals. Its soundtrack is also put together extremely well and scenes that are put to music are polished to near perfection.

Angelina Jolie shines in this film as does Matthew Lillard (both appearing relatively early in their careers), though Johnny Lee Miller is an uninspiring lead and Fisher Stevens lacks the menace to be an effective bad guy on-screen.
