Factory Pilot MX Tour

Foothill Ranch, CA - 5/26/08

To most, Memorial Day weekend signifies the kick off to summer, but in the Motorcross world it means one thing: Glen Helen. To celebrate the upcoming outdoor season, Oakley threw a party for its top accounts, athletes and industry comrades. Oakley headquarters was fully equipped for the evening, with the brand new Rolling O Lab, a fresh built out lobby and a custom goggle bar. Wahoo’s served up dinner, the DJ was spinning and the bar was wide open.

Breaking a record for the newly christened west coast R&D unit, more than 400 people experienced the Rolling O Lab. Upon finishing the world-class clinic, they received their gift bags, which included a custom FP tour, new Factory Pilot Gloves and tons of other goodies. At this point it was time to enter the custom goggle bar, where each participant got to choose a frame color, outrigger and strap to create a special goggle.

As part of Oakley’s evolving artist and special collaboration, the party also served as the launch of the limited edition Troy Lee Design Gascan. The crew from TL design brought out the collection, and a few of the yet to be released pieces were put up for a special prize. Live rock and roll karaoke provided by the Lamones determined who would receive the glasses.

Read more at: http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/762

This was stop number two of the 2008 Oakley/Corona Golf Tournament Series and one everyone had been looking forward to.

The stories of champions and the traditions of championship golf have been created at Pinehurst since 1898 (est. in 1895). Pinehurst is the site of more championships than any other golf course in the country. Most recently, this historic North Carolina resort played host to the 2005 U.S. Open.
End Search

Foothill Ranch, CA - 4/24/08

Southern California’s BMX community was out in force last Friday night, for the premiere of Josh Harrington’s newest BMX flick, End Search. More than three hundred people showed up to Oakley Headquarters in Foothill Ranch for the much-anticipated screening.

It was a rowdy crowd and everyone loudly approved of the new film—especially when Josh Harrington nailed the four-kink rail outside the Oakley building.

Unlike most new BMX videos, End Search isn’t stuck in one riding style—it mixes up street, park, and trails (rail king Josh Harrington filled his segment with what he does best). Each segment held its own and insane banger clips and the video was packed with timeless tricks and something for everyone. End Search rivals any BMX movie made in the past few years and it will defiantly hold its ground in the years to come.

“It blew my mind,” said Oakley Sports Marketing Manager Mark Scurto. “It was authentic, really good street riding. I was seriously amazed.”

Read more at: http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/728

Vision East 2008

New York, NY - 4/14/08

North America’s largest eyewear trade show saw over 15,000 people descended upon the Javits Center in Manhattan, New York for the 2008 Vision Expo East. Oakley is always known for putting together innovative and successful booth areas and 2008 was no different with our largest footprint ever - an 80 x 80 location highlighted by the Rolling O Lab. By having the O Lab in the booth location key accounts were able to meet with their respective Sales Reps to go over the new eyewear lines and gain some education on Oakley’s approach to providing superior optics.

All the visiting accounts were very impressed with the new eyewear pieces within the Square O, Women’s and Rx lines. Oakley in the past few years has begun to really establish a strong and dominating presence in the lifestyle eyewear category. And the accounts are taking notice of the hard work that our Brand Managers and Designers have put into growing this category for the brand. Standout pieces at the show were the Inmate for Square O, Ravishing for Women’s and the always-popular NanoWire with version 4.0. Additionally, a preview of the NEW high end polarized line and three NEW Ophthalmic collections received great praise as well.

Read more and check out the photo gallery at: http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/713

Oakley, Coughlin on Cutting Edge

Delaware, Ohio - 4/9/08

Reigning POWERade champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. has taken a big step towards increasing driver safety in the Pro Stock category by trading in his traditional two-piece driver's suit for a new one-piece creation from Oakley Motor Sports.

A 52-time national event winner, Coughlin has been sporting a prototype suit named Factory Pilot. It features three layers of protection and is SFI rated 5. Like all of Oakley's safety gear, it is constructed with award-winning CarbonX fabrics.

"We're seeing a big push for safety at the moment and through our conversations with Jeg we realized there was a need to improve what Pro Stock drivers are currently wearing," said Todd Hayes, Oakley's Sports Marketing Manager for Motorsports Worldwide. "The evolution of firesuits in the class just kind of went to the two-piece design, which has since survived mainly because it's easy to take the jacket on and off.

Read more at: http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/710

Pipe, Pampering, Progression

Snowmass, CO - 4/7/08

Pro snowboarder Meg Pugh was driving from Utah to Snowmass for the Gretchen Blelier Snow Angel Invitational presented by Oakley last Friday when she saw a deer in the middle of the road, swerved to miss it and hit a guardrail. After passing a breathalyzer test and interrogation from a helpful police officer, Meg caught a ride to the nearby one-horse town, where there wasn’t a rental car to be found. Fortunately there was an impound lot, where Meg found her new ride…a 1985 Nissan Pile. (What it lacked in speed and safety, it made up for in style).

Meg missed Saturday’s halfpipe competition, in which host Gretchen Bleiler won with a series of flawless and varied runs, but puttered into Snowmass Village just in time to catch the athlete yoga session, a CoverGirl makeover and girl’s night out. (If you didn’t know how much Meg likes to compete, you’d almost think she planned it that way.)

Read more at: http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/708

Around the Bloc

New York, New York - 4/2/08
On Monday night Oakley invited 300 friends to the Nicholas Robinson Gallery in Manhattan to showcase the artwork and Artist Collaboration sunglasses of Frank Kozik, Todd Francis, The London Police, Will Barras, Art Chantry, C100 and Andrew Petterson.

In a format unlike Oakley has ever attempted before, “Around the Bloc” drew a hip international crowd to a spacious gallery in Chelsea for a night of art, music and design.

“It’s really cool for Oakley to show its other side,” said artist Andrew Petterson, who showcased his artwork alongside his hand painted Frogskins. “Tonight is a successful example of Oakley branching out from sports and competition and reaching out to its art and culture roots.”

DJ Neil Armstrong and DJ Relm pumped beats throughout the two-story venue, which upstairs displayed the art and sunglasses of the seven artists. The expansive walls and minimalist design of the gallery on West 20th gave the art generous room to breathe and showcased the Artist Collaboration sunglasses as true pieces of artwork.

Downstairs Red Bull cocktails quenched those waiting in line to design a custom t-shirt. “Hit & Run” brought their unique screen printing press and offered guests a choice of designs from Oakley artists. Partygoers also received a make-your-own-Frogskins kit, which included retro Oakley Croakies and a booklet describing Oakley’s Limited Edition program.

“I’m really enjoying myself tonight,” said Munich-based C100, who showed his ’09 Frogskins. “I did a collaboration with Prada and my experience with Oakley has been much better. I really appreciate how much influence Oakley allows the artists to have. I knew some of the other artists before tonight, but for some, it’s the first time I’m seeing their work and I really like it.”

“Around the Bloc” was a groundbreaking event that showed an influential crowd that Oakley values artistic expression as much as optical superiority. The enlightening event captured the essence of the Artist Collaboration and Limited Edition programs like never before.

Words: Tess Weaver
Photos: Russ Hennings

See More Photos at: http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/704

Golf Digest Demo

ChampionsGate, FL - 3/31/08

Oakley Rolling O Lab Was On Site At The Golf Digest Demo Tour, ChampionsGate Golf Club, FL

Wrapping up a six week stay in Florida, the O Lab trucks rolled into ChampionsGate Golf Club. For those unfamiliar with ChampionsGate, it is one of Florida’s premier golf venues. With two championship courses designed by Greg Norman and the home course of David Ledbetter (who gives clinics on site), there’s no wonder why it is so revered.

It was there Golf Digest organized their Experience Tour, a demo for several manufacturers to participate in. Golfers from all over the state, Puerto Rico and even Europe came to test the latest in golf equipment technology. Pop up tents from Callaway, Cleveland, Yonex, Ping and Taylor Made to name a few were lined along the driving range. Towering behind them all was the O Lab. Under clear blue skies for two days the white awning on the lab popped, complimenting the billowing cumulous clouds. That paired with the sheer size of the truck gave Oakley an enormous presence. Hundreds of interested golfers came by the truck to check out the latest in Oakley golf spikes and to be educated on the superior optics offered by the leader in optical technology.

Read more at:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/703

Orlando, FL - 3/27/08

The Rolling O Lab paid a visit to Falcon’s Fire golf course in sunny Orlando, FL for the Oakley/Corona Golf Invitational. One couldn’t have asked for better weather to enjoy a round of golf. With blue skies and temperatures in the mid 70’s the event went off with a bang. 144 registered competitors somehow turned into 148 golfers on course.

Read more and check out the pics at:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/700

O Lab hits Florida

The Rolling O Lab was set-up directly next to the Clubhouse at Falcon's Fire Golf Course in Orlando, FL
The Rolling O Lab paid a visit to Falcon’s Fire golf course in sunny Orlando, FL for the Oakley Golf Invitational. One couldn’t have asked for better weather to enjoy a round of golf. With blue skies and temperatures in the mid 70’s the event went off with a bang. 144 registered competitors somehow turned into 148 golfers on course.

Go figure. Maybe it was the complimentary Cleveland sand wedge engraved with the Oakley logo being given away at registration. Or it could have been the complimentary “build your own” sunglasses that were offered to all who went through the O Lab. Perhaps the free BBQ buffet put on by the O Lab Crew enticed people to play the beautifully designed course. I’d like to think that the educational clinics had something to do with it all though. Eight back to back clinics were given to all of the invited golfers just before tee off. The HDO message was easily relayed to all attendees with a great overall response!

A big thanks goes out to Louis Wellen for organizing the event, as well as the entire O Lab Crew who held it down.

Words & Photos: Micah Murray
Oakley: Rolling O Lab Crew

images/News/warwagon_main_image.jpg

more images here http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/700

Yankee Phenoms

Tampa, FL - 3/25/08

This past weekend the Oakley Rolling O Lab pulled up and parked outside “Legends Field” where the New York Yankees call home during Spring Training. The weekend was a very successful one for the Oakley brand, but one of the top highlights was chatting with the three pitching phenoms.

Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy swung by the Rolling O Lab on Saturday at 7am to receive a personal R&D Demo Tour. After the tour the guys sat down and chatted about playing for the Yankees, this upcoming season and what they thought about Oakley.

Read more and watch the video at:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/697

Tampa, FL - 3/25/08

This weekend the Rolling O Lab hit Tampa, Florida for one of the most impactful demonstrations every done for a Major League Baseball Team. Everyone from past Yankee Legends to Future Phenoms walked through the O Lab and all were blown away.

The Rolling O Lab was strategically placed in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Parking Lot, which doubles as the parking for “Legends Field” across the street. Yankee Spring Training Games are sold out before Spring Training even begins, so this was a great place to talk to the everyday consumer as well.

Read more at:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/698

OPJ Easter Sunday Finals

Durban, South Africa - 3/24/08

Oakley team rider Shaun Joubert (Mossel Bay) overcame a strong challenge by Nic Godfrey (Cape St Francis) to snatch victory in good, clean, one-metre offshore waves at the internationally rated ASP Grade 2 Oakley Pro Junior at Durban’s New Pier. The inaugural junior surfing event was a highlight of the Vodacom Easter Adrenaline festival driven by the KZN Department of Transport which runs until Monday, March 24 on the Durban beachfront.

Joubert showed patience during the final by waiting 10-minutes before his first ride. This paid off as he scored an 8.5 with some vertical turns off a good quality outside set wave. Joubert consolidated his lead with a 6.17, leaving Godfrey with the tall order of scoring a near perfect 9.67 to take the lead and the title. Unfortunately for Godfrey, with time running out, he was unable to find a suitable wave, and so lost out to a deserving Joubert. As winner of the event, Joubert takes home US$2500, while Godfrey pockets a tidy $1100 for his second place. Both surfers qualify for the final championship event of the Oakley Pro Junior Global Challenge to be held in Bali later this year.

For photos, video and profiles, check out:
www.oakleyprojunior.com

Read more at:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/693

Durbin, South Africa - 3/21/08

The opening day of the Oakley Pro Junior saw some explosive surfing, with pre-contest favourites Rudy Palmboom (Bluff), Klee Strachan (Winkelspruit), Casey Grant (Scottburgh), and Oakley team rider Shaun Joubert (Mossel Bay) progressing to the round of 24 with relative ease.

As expected, competition in the internationally rated Grade 2A ASP Pro Junior event was tough, with the good conditions resulting in some highly competitive surfing.

For LIVE scoring, news, photos and video, check out oakleyprojunior.com.

Read more at:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/691

From Russia With Love

Krasyana Polyana, Russia - 3/21/08

I’ve always wanted to go to Russia…and here I am, landing in Sochi, the designated host of the 2014 Olympic games. The small airport stands by the black sea and I’m quite surprised to see palm trees through the plane window. We make our way through the taxi drivers, chose one of them by the size of his car, and drive 45 minutes to Krasnaya Polyana. This place looks like a remote European resort…40 years ago.

Oakley always travels with a fun crew, and this trip is no exception.
Oakley Heats Up Miami

Miami, Florida - 3/20/08

Oakley Women brought the heat to Miami, literally. The first day of the 2008 Oakley Women’s Media Event coincided with the hottest March day Miami has had in decades—just another reminder that the Oakley women’s brand is hotter than ever.

Shuttled by a fleet of branded Volkswagen vehicles, media personalities from around the globe trickled into the Ritz Carlton South Beach on Sunday, finding an Oakley welcome gift in their room that included ’08 apparel and a pair of Oakley’s first women’s specific sports performance eyewear, EndureTM. As the dusk turned to dark, editors and fashion directors gathered at the Ritz’s beachfront terrace for a welcome reception. Most attendees resisted the lure of the neighboring South Beach clubs and opted for a good night’s rest for the upcoming morning's boot camp.

Read more at:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/690

Bike Week 08

Bike Week 08
Daytona, FL - 3/9/08
The Oakley Rolling O Lab paired up with Ducati this year at Bike Week at Daytona International Speedway. Oakley and Ducati have worked together for a number of years creating Ducati themed sunglass color way designs for several frame options. So it was certainly appreciated when Ducati asked the lab to be a part of their overall presence at Daytona. Setup within Ducati Island the newly wrapped O Lab truck complimented the red and black color theme that is Ducati.

Friday was the big day at the track. A variety of entertainment included fashion shows that showcased the “Ducati Hotties”, bike demo performances and free product tosses by the hotties off the O Lab trailer. The crowd was fully entertained and tours were given throughout each day. A great overall response was felt and the O Lab looks forward to pairing up with Ducati later this year for another event.

Words: Micah Murray
Oakley: Rolling O Lab Crew

SEE MORE AT: http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/689

I Own It

I Own It
Nashville, TN - 3/4/08
The Rolling O Lab drove up to Nashville, TN to participate for the first time in a Luxottica Retail Sales Summit. With the help of a solid representation from Oakley, the O Lab made quite the impact on Lux Retail managers and associates from Sunglass Hut, Sunglass Icon, Lens Crafters, Pearle Vision and Ilori. It’s always exciting to convey the technology behind Oakley’s superior optics and overall design, but this audience was especially receptive.

The truck was originally supposed to be located inside a ballroom of the Gaylord Opryland center. The height of the truck just barely exceeded the height of the entrance, which forced the lab to move into a hall downstairs. Although the overall ambience of the facility was compromised, the impact was still felt. Tours ran throughout each day with the heaviest traffic rolling through during breakfast and lunch hours.

On the final night of the conference, it was time for the Oakley party to close things out. Becky Wilkinson and the original O Lab crew knew something special had to be done in order to represent the brand. After some window shopping and brainstorming at the nearby mall, we came across the store, Hot Topic. New threads were picked out almost instantly while having a good laugh. Back at the hotel fully suited up, it didn’t take long for people to notice and instantly ask if we were with Oakley or comment on the fact that we were. The crew knew right away a solid choice had been made.

After the lab was closed down the crew headed up to the party. At the top of the stairs a certain song could be heard inside the ballroom that Bryan had just mentioned he wanted to hear. Before I could blink, he ran off with us all in tow. As we cleared our way through the crowd, we rushed the stage and started an instant dance party. Within seconds half the room cleared and also rushed the stage. The rest of the night will be remembered by those who were present. With the tag line this year being “I Own It” I do believe the O Lab crew helped relay that message.

Big thanks to Becky Wilkinson and Ben Masek at Oakley.

Words: Micah Murray
Oakley: Rolling O Lab Crew

See more at: http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/688
Site Issues

We apologize for the downtime. Earlier in the week the site would go up and down. After resetting the services, it would only stay for a few minutes. A reboot of the server would only temporarily solve the problem. I noticed that plain text and html files would work but nothing in ASP scripting. After one last reboot, a small test file worked, so I set out to check every page. I ensured that all database calls were closed by the coding rather than left open to time out on their own. This seems to be stable now and will hopefully be fine in the future.

Wazzu Uprising

Snoqualmie, WA - 3/11/08
Six climate changes, 4 features, 3 flannel shirts, and 16 pearl jam songs later and we knew we had arrive in the Northwest. In fact, we had rolled up on the 2008 Oakley Uprising at Snoqualmie in Washington. We came to the Northwest to do two things; drink some coffee and kick some quartepipe ass; and the coffee was gone by 10:30am. The anticipation was flying through the air like that little baby that ended up in the pool on the old Nirvana cover. In the words of the famous Eddie Veder: “eeewrwweeerwwerr”. I think what our friend Eddie was trying to say is “set it free young quarter pipe shredders, set it free”.

Set it free we did. The chairlift ride to the “arena of awesomeness” was a wet one, but it was as if by some act of god that the second we approached the quarterpipe the sun came out. Of course it rained again five minutes later, but we were all certain that those were the tears of Quarterpipe legend Terje Haakonsen himself. This was a majestic quarterpipe, with none other then a 6 foot sword sticking through the deck of it. On the backside of this QP was the rail park where we would begin or day. If the rail jam was the appetizer and the QP was going to be the main course.

Read more at:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/686

FROGSKIN - Re-Release

FROGSKIN RE-RELEASE
Foothill Ranch, CA - 8/10/07
Be a part of our history with a new spin on a pop culture classic, the Oakley Frogskin®!

At Oakley, we’ve spent decades creating original works of art that reinvent both technology and style. To celebrate the rich history of our brand, we decided to re-release a ground-breaking style that can be traced back more than twenty years to our “garage” company roots.

First introduced in 1985 and originally available in over 50 colors, the Oakley Frogskin was a part of the 80’s pop culture, a time like no other. Ronald Reagan was in the White House. “The Terminator” was in the box office and Run-D.M.C. was in certified gold. We have resurrected the original tooling from the early ‘80s to produce new limited editions, giving today’s culture a chance to own a piece of history.

WHY NOW, IN 2007?

The answer is simple: sometimes, amidst all the Mad Science here at Oakley, we get to waxing nostalgic. So we wanted to give you a chance to channel a core piece of our brand, circa 1985. Far from just reintroducing an older sunglass model, this limited, tiered release applies to those who appreciate the fine art of innovation; people who are setting the pace in today’s world of style.

For each original color combination of this coveted style, only 3,000 Collectors Editions will be produced. This is an opportunity to own a rare retro classic, and once supplies are gone, the window of opportunity will be closed forever!

Words by: Newbear

E-mail response

Just an FYI regarding e-mail contact. For the next few weeks, I will be unable to answer most requests due to my schedule. If it's a quick questions, I will do my best. E-mail asking where to find items will most likely be ignored since I can't help, and it's stated above. If it's new, go to a store or a vault, if it's old try ebay. That's about your only options, I have no connections. Questions about Oakley items, I will try if time allows, but may be delayed a long time or eventually forgotten. I apologize for the inconvenience.

VeloNews Honors Oakley

4/17/07
Founded by college dropout Jim Jannard and named after his dog, Oakley has become an icon in the sport. There are only a handful of companies in the world so ingrained in American cycling, and Oakley is the only one that can claim a supporting role during each and every American Tour de France victory.

Jannard started Oakley in 1975 with one product — a motocross handgrip — which he sold out of the back of his car. In the late ’70s, Jannard developed and began selling a motocross goggle that relied on an optically corrected Lexan lens, during a time when his competitors were still relying on glass and plastic lenses. The new goggle sparked Oakley’s reputation for designing high-tech products. In 1983, Oakley produced the Factory Pilot Eyeshade, a hybrid sunglass that relied on an adaptation of the company’s goggle lens. In 1986, when Greg LeMond became the first American to win the Tour de France, he did it wearing a pair of Eyeshades.

That Tour win propelled the company into the mainstream spotlight and prompted Oakley to assign Dana “The Duke” Duke as the company’s first full-time sports marketing representative to its athletes. Oakley found that it could promote its products with high-profile athlete endorsements, rather than advertising, especially when marketing the products’ performance or technological attributes. LeMond was the first, but plenty of high-profile cyclists, including Lance Armstrong, have since followed with their endorsements.

Matt Pacocha
VELONEWS: The Journal of Competitve Cycling
Commemorative 35th Anniversary Issue
“35 Years of Heroes and Innovators”

The official article can be viewed here:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/386

King of the Park 2007

Waveland, MS - 4/14/07
Greetings from the world of Oakley skateboarding. Spring is upon us and times have been hectic to say the least. In the midst of skateboard madness and the blur that is our everyday lives, one recent event that we were lucky enough to be a part of has really opened our eyes and convinced us to focus on the important things in life.

While attending the King of the Park contest in Waveland, Mississippi, the scale of the destruction to the region hit me like a ton of bricks. Almost two years after Hurricane Katrina flooded and ravaged whole cities Louisiana and Mississippi, the people hit hardest are still struggling to get their lives back in order. Most people whose houses were destroyed continue to live in tiny trailers parked in front of the ruins that were once called home. The sheer enormity of the still wretched destruction can't be fathomed without seeing it with one's own eyes.

One beacon of hope for the city of Waveland, Mississippi is Kelly Welsh, the owner South Coast Skate Park. In the aftermath of Katrina, Kelly did everything humanly possible to get the park back in operation for the kids whose lives were seemingly destroyed in Katrina's wake. With much help from family, friends and a few financial institutions who loaned him money, Kelly rebuilt the park. South Coast Skate Park was the first business in Waveland, Mississippi to reopen after the storm.

The 6th annual King of the Park contest marked the crossroads of a hurricane's destruction and a community's return to normality. Florida 's Chris Coogan and Miles Channevello of Illinois took first and second places, respectively. Oakley's own Tyler Hendley clenched third place and the Red Bull's Most Versitile Skater award with his technical wizardry and insatiable need for speed.

In the scheme of things, a skateboard contest may seem insignificant in the scheme of things for the kids of Waveland, but it's a sign that things are beginning to return to the way things were and the way things will someday be.

Dylan Radloff
Oakley: Sports Marketing Skateboard Manager

The official article can be viewed here:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/385

Los Angeles, CA - 4/15/07
Last Friday evening in Los Angeles at BelleVarado Studios, it was in style to wear sunglasses at night – and better yet, indoors.

FOAM Magazine and Oakley hosted a fashion show with the theme “Through the Looking Glass” which featured the latest looks in swimwear and women’s eyewear from a number of companies, including Salinas, Volcom, Billabong, O’Neill, Hobie, Roxy, Split, Body Glove, Rusty, Rip Curl, and Oakley, with accessories from Ezekiel, Fox, Kustom sandals, Goka shoes, and one-of-a-kind jewelry from designer Alicia Shulman.

Guests arrived at the event to find a media wall where pictures were shot against a background featuring the logos of FOAM, Oakley and Step-Up Foundation. The event included an auction of different specialty items donated by the participating companies with all proceeds going to the Step-Up Foundation.

Oakley’s specialty auction items included goggles signed by top female athletes Gretchen Bleiler and Kristi Leskinen, as well as a custom sunglass created by Pro surfer Kira Sheppard.

Other indicators that the event was an Oakley hosted shindig were the ice sculpture encasing a pair of the new women’s Speechless sunglasses, as well as our name included on the cake that was part of the massive dessert spread available to party guests.

All in all the event proved to be another successful exposure event for the women’s eyewear and apparel lines, as the audience was full of local buyers and accounts dealing with Oakley and other competing brands.

With our eyewear the only brand featured in the show, each look coming down the runway had a definite Oakley feel to it.

Words: Alyssa Gross
Oakley: Public Relations

Photos: Russ Hennings
Oakley: Senior Staff Photographer

The Official Atricle can be viewed here:
http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/387

Supreme Frogskins

In 1975, Jim Jannard started Oakley in his garage lab with $300 and the idea of making products that work better and look better than anything else out there. His first success came in the form of a new motorcycle hand grip with a unique tread and rider-friendly shape. Top pros took notice of the product's "Unobtainium" material that actually increased grip as the rider sweats. Next up for the motocross market was Jannard's wildly successful O Frame goggle, with its lens curved into a perfect arched cylinder to give riders a clear and wide peripheral view. Many versions of eyewear followed and today, world-class cyclists such as Greg LeMond, Lance Armstrong, and Scott Tinley demand the performance and protection offered by Oakley products. The Oakley Frogskins were first released in 1986 and quickly became a symbol of that decade's surf and skate culture. Worn by legend Tom Carrol, Frogskins epitomized the surf lifestyle. This spring, Supreme will introduce four new colorways and one custom Supreme pattern of the classic Frogskins sunglasses. For the first time in Oakley's history, the brand revitalized and put to use the original Frogskins mold for this very special project.

Available this April in Supreme stores worldwide.

from the news section of http://www.supremenewyork.com/

Santa Cruz, CA - 3/21/07
The sleepy art and surf town of Santa Cruz, California came alive to welcome David Flores and his new limited edition signature sunglass piece.

Pacific Wave gave free rain to the Oakley crew to showcase David’s artwork, while offering plenty to eat and drink with DJ Pres backing it all up.

The high point of the evening occurred when one of David’s die-hard fans arrived with an original hand painted skate deck from earlier in his career. And through some clever wheeling and dealing the piece was retrieved and added back to David’s insane collection.

Check out the photos below from Santa Cruz – see you in Los Angeles.

http://oakley.com/community/news/article/id/360

The above individual who gave the Deck to David Flores is a Member of the 0-review - O-AFX
He has explained his decision in the Members Forum which can be viewed here.

http://o-review.com/forum_detail.asp?ID=7877&StartNum=0&#new

The Oakley Arctic Challenge Count Down Begins!!

The Oakley Arctic Challenge Count Down Begins!!

Olso, Norway (Friday - February 23, 2007)
The Oakley Arctic Challenge is in its final stages of preparation here in Olso, Norway. TAC is seen by many as the premier snowboard event each year, organized by Terje Haakonsen and put on by snowboarders for snowboarders. This invite only event combines the top 24 quarterpipe riders in the world for a massive man-made monument in Oslo. This year’s venue will be unlike any in the best with countless hours of science, on-site development and manicuring by the event organizers and Terje himself!

Once again, Oakley is offering up the “Gold Timebomb” watch to the first rider that achieves a 10-meter air. The past six years TAC has been chasing the seemingly elusive 10 meter (30 foot) air, that Heikki Sorsa missed by a mere foot in 2001. To maximize the chance for the riders of this year’s event in reaching the 10-meter mark, the TAC crew has been hard at work. First we started with the “science of transition” as our event focus, looking into the mathematics of how a rider could achieve a 10-meter air; from there we were able to figure out the necessary elements with the key addition being the 10-meter high drop in ramp.

Other new additions to this year’s event is the format, TAC has changed up the schedule so there are four days of practice and two days of competition. Thus giving the riders the extra time to get used to the large transition and really prepare them for the finals on Saturday. Also, in the past the contest has been plagued by the ever-changing Norwegian weather, to try and work with Mother Nature the event has been stationed in Olso, and pushed up in snowboard calendar season to the first weekend in March.

We will be providing you with many more updates all next week as practice begins on Monday and the riders prepare for Friday and Saturday’s competition. A live webcast will be available from Oakley.com on Freecaster - click here to visit the link. In the meantime check out the course layout for this year’s event to get a true feel for the venue.

View last year’s event (Episode 1 of The Method presented by Oakley) – click here for Method.TV

Click here for the official site:http://oakley.com/news/tac_07/

Oakley Deploys Rolling O Lab to Take High Definition Optics to the Masses

Oakley, Inc. (NYSE:OO) today announced the deployment of the Rolling O Lab, a mobile demonstration unit that will travel the nation to educate consumers about the company's superior High Definition Optics(r) (HDO(r)) technology. Built as a 40-foot motor coach, the fully self-contained facility will offer live demonstrations of the company's optical performance and protection at retail locations, sport venues and other select public events.

"Consumers need to open their eyes to the fact that not all sunglasses are created equal," said Colin Baden, president of Oakley, Inc. "We developed the Rolling O Lab to educate people about the truth of today's eyewear and to show firsthand how Oakley's HDO(r) sunglasses provide the best optical clarity, impact resistance and UV protection in the industry. By taking our science to the street, we can reach out to those who might not have an opportunity to learn about the quality and performance of our eyewear."

"In educating the public, the Rolling O Lab will also serve as a mobile marketing unit that entertains and enlightens, maintaining a positive and powerful brand presence. It presents a high-quality image of the company by utilizing a comprehensive and meticulously crafted audio/visual package," continued Baden. "Scheduled to be on the road more than 300 days a year, it offers a brand emersion experience that tells the Oakley story, one of technical innovation, inspiration and optical superiority."

Nimble enough to access sporting events and retail locations, the mobile lab facility is built into a 40-foot motor coach with a 2007 Freightliner chassis. Three large slide-outs increase interior space for demonstrations and service as a base camp. The main entrance extends to a 4' x 8' stage and a 20' x 30' awning with half sidewalls provides additional display areas outside the coach.

Technology presentations inside the Rolling O Lab include the use of optical laser scope equipment which demonstrates clarity and prism shift, ultraviolet emitters and measuring devices to illustrate UV protection, and testing rigs that show the effects of high-velocity and high-mass impact situations. The mobile facility includes three large plasma screens (one built into the side of the vehicle), an electronics cart with touch screens, product displays, a seating area and a wheelchair lift for coach access. The coach tows a 20-foot hospitality trailer complete with guest seating and a large plasma display, as well as a gaming unit and restroom.

Oakley's new Rolling O Lab will make its debut at the FBR Phoenix open in early February. PGA tournament fans will be the first to experience this mobile showcase of optical technology. To learn more about the Rolling O Lab, check the company's Web site at www.oakley.com for more information including upcoming schedules.

Oakley's High Definition Optics(r) (HDO(r))

Oakley's High Definition Optics(r) (HDO(r)) is the company's collective performance technology architecture that includes optical clarity, impact resistance and harmful light protection well above industry standards. With patented XYZ Optics(r), Oakley lenses maintain optical clarity at all angles of vision across the entire surface of the lens contours and feature architecture which maximizes peripheral vision and impact protection against sun, wind and potential foreign objects. Protection is further optimized by frame materials and architecture which maintains impact resistance that meets ANSI Z87.1 standards. Oakley's Plutonite(r) lens material filters out 100 percent of all UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light up to 400 nm, and because the filtering is inherent to the lens material, it cannot be scratched off like the coatings of conventional sunglasses. (ESS), one of the world's largest suppliers of military, law enforcement and firefighting protective eyewear, for $110 million cash.

"This acquisition represents another major step for Oakley in our strategy to accelerate growth in our core optics business," said Scott Olivet, chief executive officer, Oakley, Inc. "ESS's brand and company reputation, strong goggle business, and breadth of distribution across military, fire fighting and law enforcement channels complement our existing military eyewear platform.

"Oakley is at its best when we work to solve the most difficult problems of the world's most demanding users -- the exact same thing can be said of ESS," continued Olivet. "By joining forces, we are combining two individually strong brands with remarkably similar core values, enhancing both of our abilities to provide the best product and highest quality service possible."

"This represents an exceptional and timely opportunity for both ESS and Oakley.
Tour De France '06 Preview

Tour De France '06 Preview

Strasbourg, France - June 2006
The 93rd edition of the Tour de France is upon us. In 21 days the Tour will cover more than 3650 kilometers (2268 miles). The riders are tuned up and equipped with the latest High Definition Optics (HDO®) and are ready for what will be the greatest show on earth for the month of July. The main contenders looking to bring the Yellow Jersey back to Paris are riders such as Phonak's Floyd Landis, Discovery's Yaroslav Popovich and George Hincapie, Lotto's Cadel Evans and AG2R's Christophe Moreau. Since each rider has their own preferences in style, we have given them the ability match their eyewear to their team colors with
OCE (Oakley Custom Eyewear). Some riders like to keep things simple and use one specific glass for everything; rain, wind, sun and shade, that is where Transitions lenses will come in, as they adapt to the roads as conditions change, to let the riders see what others can't.

During the first week, look for riders such as David Millar, Michael Rogers and Bobby Julich to set the bar in the prologue. Throughout the first week, look for attacks in the group which will most likely come back to the peloton in the final kilometer, giving spectacular sprint finishes. This is where you will see guys like Stuart O'Grady, Robbie McEwen and Thor Hushovd "battle it out" for the Sprinters coveted Green Jersey. Once the Tour crosses the top of France, the first of two individual time trials from Sainte Gregoire to Rennes will certainly wake up one or two of the favorites, before they head into the mountains a few days later. When the peloton arrives to stage 10 in the mountains, it's game on! This will be the first major test for the 2006 Tour de France. Look for Iban Mayo, Carlos Sastre, Chris Horner and Paulo Salovedelli to do some major pace setting here. Once the peloton exits the Alps, there's one final individual time trial before the tour heads back into Paris, there you will see who will bring the yellow jersey back into Paris to claim the overall title of Tour de France Champion. The most asked question leading up to this year's tour is, Who will win? The only truthful answer for now is, you never know, we will all have to wait and see.

The Full article with Images cam be viewed here:
http://oakley.com/news/tour_de_france_06/

Canteen

The Canteen has shown up on Oakley.com, and is based upon the Gascan model, but styled for slightly smaller heads.
When it comes to technology, they say we’re overly aggressive. And because our science and art are inseparable, designs like CANTEEN are anything but restrained. That’s the point. When you wear this frame, you’re rejecting the gutless technology of ordinary eyewear. CANTEEN utilizes HIGH DEFINITION OPTICS® (HDO®) for unbeatable performance, PLUTONITE® lenses for 100% UV filtering, and patented XYZ OPTICS® for clarity at all angles of vision. The comfortably lightweight design is rendered from durable O MATTER® frame material, enhanced with dual cam hinges, and optimized with UNOBTAINIUM® components that increase grip with perspiration. It even meets all ANSI Z87.1 standards for optical precision and impact resistance. You could say CANTEEN makes its fashion statement by letting technology do the talking. Prescription ready.

http://oakley.com/o/o3680d

Polished Black w/Grey
(03-540) - $95

Brown Smoke w/Dark Bronze
(03-541) - $95

Matte Black w/Warm Grey*
(03-543) - $95

Olive w/Dark grey
(12-725) - $95

Rust w/VR28 Black Iridium
(03-542) - $105

Dark Amber w/Bronze Polarized
(12-875) - $150

Polished Black w/Black Iridium Polarized
(12-876) - $160

Separate Volume World Premiere

Foothill Ranch, CA - April 6, 2006

Oakley premiered its first surf film, "Separate Volume" at the Headquarters in Foothill Ranch, Ca. The fiesta started with catered street tacos, margaritas, a mobile mariachi band and a sunset photo-op with a donkey. As the sun went down the stadium lights turned on for the pre-movie event of Mexican Lucha Libre Wrestling, like previewed in the new Jack Black film "Nacho Libre". The crowd of 1000 people gathered around the ring to watch these guys beat the living crap out of each other. As the show ended, everyone flowed into the Oakley Lobby and into the Amphitheater to watch the main event unfold.

From gauging under the lip turns on 60 foot waves, by Nathan Fletcher, to Aaron Cormican's rotation flips in 2 foot waves, the crowd witnessed the lifestyles of our Oakley surf athletes in top form. Directed by Matt Goodman and edited my Curt Morgan, the same editor of Oakley's "The Community Project". This duo added a different feel to surf films that are being made at the present time. Filmed in exotic locations around the world, on the best waves known to man and captured in 35 and 16mm footage. This project was given an artistic approach totally unique from anything out there, which created a timeless piece of art in motion.

For more information:

http://oakley.com/news/surf/separate_volume/

Oakley Wins first 2006 Supercross Championship

Houston, TX - April 1, 2006

Oakley young gun Davi Millsaps won his first Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites championship in front of 47,389 fans. Davi got off the gate in 6th place and by the end of lap two - Davi had pulled up to the leaders. He grabbed one tear-off to clear his vision on his chosen Tribal-print O-Frame goggle and made his move to show that there is no doubt whose Championship this is. Davi rode off in the night lights to his fourth win of the season and to a Championship. This gives Oakley our first Championship of the 2006 season.

"This is great," Davi said. "I have been looking forward to this my whole life and I have a lot of people to thank, especially my mother, who has been behind me my whole career as well all of my close sponsors like Oakley, Honda and No Fear. "Now that I have this number 1 plate for the AMA Supercross Lites class, I am ready to go race with the big boys in the AMA Supercross class."

James "Bubba" Stewart was on fire en route to his eighth win in the Amp'd Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series. With this win Bubbs ties his Oakley teammate Carmichael for the Amp'd Mobile World Supercross GP championship. He now has three wins in a row and has won the most main events this year so far. Oakley's Michael Byrne grabbed the $1,500 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award in the AMA Supercross class with Bubba in second and Carmichael in third. Bubba moved into the lead on the opening lap and RC went to second. The two Factory Pilots remained there for the duration of the main event.

"I had a great start tonight but I was unable to run with James pace in the first three laps," said Carmichael. "I was fighting hard out there and not riding conservatively but, at the same time, I do not want to take too many chances. I have a decent lead for the AMA championship but want to win the world championship as well, so I have to step up at these last few races."

"I am having a blast out there," said Stewart. "I am pumped to tie up the points for the world championship, and if I want to have a shot at winning the AMA championship, I need to win races. I had a great pace out there tonight."

I need to say a BIG THANKS to TORCH for bringing the Nitro Freaks out to enjoy a little dirty work.

SX MAIN (20 laps): (Oakley Athletes in Black)

1.James Stewart (Kaw)
2.Ricky Carmichael (Suz)
3.Chad Reed (Yam)
4.Kevin Windham (Hon)
5.Michael Byrne (Kaw)
6.Ivan Tedesco (Suz)
7.Travis Peston (Hon)
8.Nicholas Wey (Hon)
9.Timm Ferry (Hon)
10.Ryan Clark (Hon)

Season Standings: (Oakley Athletes in Black)

1.Ricky Carmichael (Suz), 281
2.Chad Reed (Yam), 269
3.James Stewart (Kaw), 264
4.Ivan Tedesco (Suz), 209
5.Nicholas Wey (Hon), 198
6.Michael Byrne (Kaw), 197
7.Travis Peston (Hon), 160
8.Ernesto Fonseca (Hon), 125
9.Mike LaRocco (Hon), 108
10.Timm Ferry (Hon), 108

For more information:

http://oakley.com/news/mx/supercross_13_06/

Oakley Partners With Transitions Optical to Offer Non-Prescription Photochromic Sunglass Lenses: Sunglass Lenses Automatically Change Color to Adapt to Light Conditions

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., March 31, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Oakley, Inc. (NYSE:OO) today announced that it plans to partner with Transitions Optical, Inc. to create a line of non-prescription (plano) sunglass lenses that automatically adjust the level of tint with varying ultraviolet (UV) light conditions. The Transitions(R) Photochromic Technology has been combined with the unsurpassed clarity of Oakley's High Definition Optics(R) (HDO(R)), the impact resistance and optical purity of Plutonite(R) lens material, and the enhanced visual contrast of Oakley lens colors.

"The patented technologies of Transitions Optical combined with Oakley's High Definition Optics marks an evolutionary step in sunglass technology, offering levels of performance, convenience and optical clarity the world has never seen," said Colin Baden, president of Oakley, Inc. "Whether you're golfing, cycling or pounding pavement on a dawn training run, you can't maintain peak performance unless your eyes keep up with your environment."

"Transitions and Oakley are committed to advancing eyewear technology, and protecting and promoting healthy sight. Given Oakley's 30-year sports heritage, this is a great opportunity to bring our photochromic technology to outdoor sport performance applications," said Dave Cole, general manager of the Americas, Transitions Optical. "Now, whether you're an athlete or just involved in outdoor activities these new sunglass lenses provide convenient protection from UV and glare while maximizing visual performance in all lighting conditions."

"If you're a professional athlete, this combination of technologies gives you performance, impact resistance and clarity that you can't get with any other product," continued Baden. "Even non-athletes -- people who just want better comfort and the peace of mind that comes with knowing their view of the world is as sharp and clear as technology allows while being protected from the sun -- will have the opportunity to utilize this combination of the world's best optical sciences."

Offering an entirely new level of performance for sports and recreation, these variable tint, plano sunglass lens products join the line of Oakley prescription lenses currently available with photochromic technology -- Oakley(R) Transitions(R) Lenses and Oakley(R) Iridium(R) Lenses Activated by Transitions(TM).

Oakley(R) Activated by Transitions(TM) Plano Sunglass Lenses

The Oakley(R) Activated by Transitions(TM) plano sunglass lenses will initially be available in two performance colors including Oakley's VR50(TM) and Black Persimmon. As UV light exposure increases, the base lens darkens automatically to maintain a precisely tuned level of light transmission -- from overcast/flat light to bright sun -- ensuring visual acuity is optimized. Additionally, the balanced light transmission helps to boost visual contrast, enhancing depth perception, a key performance benefit that improves visual quality and comfort.

For the initial launch, Oakley expects that six frame designs will be available with the option of Transitions(R) Photochromic Technology. They will be sold under their frame name with "Activated by Transitions(TM)" added.

Oakley(R) Activated by Transitions(TM) Plano Sunglass Lenses

Oakley's Photochromic Page:

http://oakley.com/technology/photochromic/

Discuss it here:

http://o-review.com/forum_detail.asp?ID=5827
