Variations and Generational Changes

Over time some models have had minor to major tweaks in their appearance. Sometimes the changes are marked with a version number, but those usually become completely different from the original look. Others keep the same name, but still look different. But most of the time, we simply have a generational evolution that goes unmentioned. With the help of many of our members (EastCoast, kingphilbert, x-metalman, BrianJ1888, oogie, banarno, Bong) we've compiled most of those changes here.

For the purpose of this document, I'll define a few terms that will be used:

Gen #: Denotes a minor change in appearance or form that occurs while a certain model is in production. Color combos usually stay the same as well as SKU#'s.
Note: in cases where a model transitions from its original release into a Modern or otherwise non-generational variation, the term 'Original' will be used, but can be interpreted as 'Gen 1'.

Modern: Denotes more than just a generational evolution, but a whole redesign or change. Color combos may change, but the name will remain the same. Usually there is no lapse in production, and the items are still considered to be the same, but with similar standards set by the other current releases at the time. They may be referred to as another generation as well. With some models, the tag 'New' is placed before the name, like New Eye Jacket and New Straight Jacket. Othertimes, it is not placed and has to be inferred. SKU#'s are usually different even for the same colorway.

Re-release: Denotes a complete change in style similar to a modern release, but usually follows a period of discontinuation. Styles may or may not be completely different to the original.

Version: Denotes a new release which usually does not keep the same style, but possibly elements of it. May be the same as a 'Modern' or a 'Re-release', but a version number (2.0, 3.0 etc...) is usually appended to show the change, rather than keeping it hidden.

Variation: Denotes a style change within a generation or release. Styles may be female specific or changed for a signature release.
