Hi all,

I've recently discovered an ancient old M-Lens box stashed in the loft that contained my original (scratched) blue iridium Strike lenses along with a pair of Mumbo/M-Frame Hybrid lenses.
Now, my memory is not what it was. (Actually my memory IS what it was...it was rubbish then too.) These lenses have different lugs on them (the bit that slots into the m-frame at the corners) and they dont fit my (new) M-frame. Here's a pic next to my Strike lenses to show the difference.

As I say, memory fails me, but I've a vague recollection that these lenses never fit my original Gen 1 M-frames either. But that leaves me with the question of why do I have them and what the hell DID they fit in? Both answers currently elude me.
So any info on what frames these fit it would be appreciated.

As an additional question (just to keep you on your toes), at what point did Oakley start putting "Oakley" across the bridge of the M-Lenses? Both my original Strike lenses and these Hybrids dont have it. But my other Strike ones do.

Cheers folks,
Sq!

hi steve

ok, easy question first, i think from memory oakley started putting the wording accross their lenses on the m frame in about 1994 (2nd gen version) where prior to this their lenses had nothing and were the 1st generation.

as for the lugs variation, i have many like this too.

i find the lug on your hybrid lense wont fit the current m-frames as the lugs are not big (wide) enough to keep in the frame without falling out, they should however fit the older frames.

this could be a mixture of the lugs being smaller or the slot in the newer m frames being smaller and less snug.

did you purchase them yourself, as it could be they are not genuine lenses-just a thought....

maybe some one else with more knowledge may have the exact answer....

Hi Paul

Many thanks for the quick reply.

Yep, deffo original lenses (I did buy them myself in Florida), I just wish I could remember WHY I bought them. They don't fit my face (if you get me), that's why I have the strike lenses (which do). Maybe I just bought the wrong damn thing...Oakley lens shapes are not the easiest things to figure out for the uninitiated. It's not unlike me to take my butt into the shop in Florida and say
Steve: "These are scratched, have you got another set?"
Assistant: "Not those, but I have these?"
Steve "Ok whatever, they'll do"
Sometime later, back at home in UK...
Steve: "Oh sh**!!"
:-)

I do remember them not fitting....something! But that could have been a friend's alternative manufacturer's frames as I tried to palm them off. But my original 1st Gen M-Frame snapped so I cant try them out to be sure of that.

So if anyone wants a pair of original, never-used Hybrid lenses...I'm yer man :-)

Cheers

Hi Jules,

Yes I did, and I responded too. But I'll be honest the PM section of the website is not the easiest to fathom. I'll re-send. If you wanna switch to email I'm at donsigwig@gmail.com

Cheers,

imo they should fit in the older Mframes, because thats what they were designed for! but the extended lens of the hybrid does make it tricky to line it up right..
