I dont mean to talk down upon any Oakley product but the new replacement ruby lenses are like fire lenses. I actually have a mag 4 fire lens that is more red than the rubies these days. My mars and penny rubies are more intense than the new replacement ruby I got for 1 of my juliets :-(

Don't forget, the Mag 4 lenses are also a lot more flat that the Penny and Juliet lenses.

Just got some ruby replacement lenses from the SF "O" Store. They look pretty good to me, almost like my original lens. It even has the purple hues in the middle. Its looks way better in person. The picture don't justify the real colors.

Original one is on the bottom - notice the scratches.

Yeah.. it's tough to capture the true color of ruby lenses.

Is your original one slightly more purple?

Tony, do you know if those ruby replacements were recently acquired by the SF O store? I would like to know if the ones available from the Oakley website may look like the ones you got.

Yes, my original is slightly a little more purple.

I believe so, they just got them in because I was checking back with them for a couple of weeks until they got them. They should be about the same on the website, depending on the batch. You can always return them to the online store if you are not happy with the ones you receive.

Here is a couple of shots that I took today of the replacement lenes. Not bad for only $60.00!

Tony, would you be able to recreate the second picture but this time using your original lenses?

my opinion, it is really hard to be able to tell how red or how purple the lenses are just by taking pics. I have a somewhat crappy ruby lens for my juliet and I can take pic of it to make it as red as my mars and my penny. So I guess the only way of telling the true color is if u see it infront of u :-)

True.

Even then, the true color changes under different light conditions.

Here's a reissue ruby penny. Not very purple, very orange/yellow, slight tint of red on the right lens.

and here's the xmetal ruby family:

So much variation.
Our 2006 Penny looks quite red in just about any light. It still has those orange yellow hues, but not quite like yours, Ken. Actually, we were quite shocked with our purchase after seeing all the new Ruby Penny releases. Shocked but pleased.
I hope the Juliet we're going to pick up is just as red.

But hey man, if you want a Penny with more red, we'll gladly trade you for those Ruby Mars! ^_^

Hehe, the ruby mars i found it for a steal so i think you would have to pry it from my dead hands:) my penny is pretty much like my polarized fire iridium but with a little more red/orange in the middle. very dissapointing but for 170 us its a steal. now, if it fits me better, i would've bought some nicer lens but it's a bit small on me. Maybe im just not used to spring hinges

Oakley should still have replacement lenses for the Penny. I would call them up, say that you wanted to buy replacement Ruby lenses and just send them in minus your existing lenses. I did that sometime in 2005 I think, and got me a rather nice set of Ruby lenses that even have a pretty decent purple hue in the middle.
For $60, you really can't go wrong, especially with how much you paid for your pair. =)

LOOK AT MY BRAND NEW RUBIES!! THEY ARE SO PURPLE!!

OK. I'm just joking. THese are my existing juliets. The angle here shows that no yellows and oranges are reflected. What a difference eh?

******Possible Ruby Quartz Polarized siting*****

Saw it on a certain auction site somewhere...can't quite remember the name...but here is an interesting description I found:
"These ruby quartz lenses are extra hard to find since they were custom cut and include a blend of:

* 2 layers of Fire Iridium
* 7 layers of Red Iridium
* 4 layers of Ruby Iridium
* 15 layers of Ruby quartz (final layers)"

Sound crazy? It did when I first read it. That is quite a number of Iridium layers. Would you really be able to see through these lenses? Is this seller for real? Or is he/she just off their rocker?

P.S. One (or 2) of the pics really looks like a Ti02 Penny. Definitely interesting.

Oakley hasn't done "Ruby Quartz" coatings.
And from several of the pictures on that listing, it just looks like typical Ruby to me.
