thanks again...I have 1 more pair to play with tomorrow, and for me, it will be a total first. We shall see how it goes, and if all goes well, they will be total SICKNESS!!!
good fookin' luck...that is the hardest frame I have cut for so far. I have had some give me troubles, but these really create headaches all around. If anyone thought a Penny and the corners there are tough, THINK AGAIN!!! Pennys are total cake in my opinion, but this was tough. Heater and strike work...Strike just barely, and don't slip the slightest bit...
Beautiful work Josh! This has got to be my favorite thread. I know there must be a reason for all the black/gray lenses in the stock colorways these days, but when I see something like those Crosshairs, I wonder why! Josh, you are like the SURGEON GENERAL of lens cutting!!!
You've have wanted to chop a hatchet? Deal!! I'll be sending one your way tomorrow. Got anything on hand to cut? I've got a Carbon / Black Iridium Polarized for ya!!!
Thanks for the kind words on my choice for G26. It's been a long while since I really had anything custom done. Depending on the job, I'll either do it myself or drop them by a local optical shop that has agreed to do them pretty reasonably for me. Since my last job was rather tough getting a 24k lens into a fatcat frame, I've become a bit lazy and just opt to have the shop cut and slap in the new lenses.
Paul, do they have to be an Oakley authorized optical shop or can any shop do the job? I don't have any experience in this area. Do they charge? If so, what is the average cost? Thanks for any help you can give.
the first cuts I ever had done were by Lens Crafters, and they basically wasted a set butchering them. Most who have the capabilities probably will cut them, but probably won't jump at the asking. If they fook up your lenses, it's on them
Yeah, after doing a good deal of calling around, I really only found this one optical shop that agreed to do it - with really no hesitation or problem (odd, considering everyone else refused). But they charge a flat $25. And knowing that they do a decent machine cut and have done some good work with some reasonably tough lenses, I feel pretty good leaving it in their hands.
Obviously, nothing to take away from Dr. Chop - it's just that for not much more than what I would spend in shipping charges back and forth to the good Dr, it makes sense for me to have it done locally.
If I'm not mistaken, I think another local member I've shared their work with has had some stuff done, and had some stuff cut for another member outside the US (this was many moons ago, tho).
there is nothing wrong with finding a local who can do it like that at all. Hell, if my local optometrist would do it reasonably, I would consider that, but mine just won't. And, they look good. The Lens Crafters I went to used some sort of scissors or something, and just brutalized the lenses...That was what sparked me to start chopping..
