Hi All ,
I'm finding that about 20 to 25% of my collection has some sort of lens flaking.
It looks as if a clear film layer is flaking off mainly on the back side of the lens and some on the front.
Most of the flaking is on the corners of the lens but in some cases it continued across the whole lens.
does anyone know what this is and what's causing it ?
The age of the item doe not seem to be a factor as i have quite new items with this issue.
Any insights would be appreciated.

Thats what called lens delamination. It can happen to all lenses but seems more common on my older stuff. The theory is that hair products, sun screen or other chemicals can cause it if it is not cleaned off effectively. There are a few other theory's, like general environmental conditions, as well as I've had mine delam just sitting in the bag unused. I think the real reason is still a mystery.

To be honest, if I have MAJOR delam on the inside of my lenses, I just stick a piece of scotch tape to the inside and peel it off. Normally it removes the rest of the layer. Do that at your own risk

Thanks for that . Ill try the scotch tape on one that is pretty bad and see the results.

How does it affect the lens when you remove that?

I removed the delamination via another method on one pair (lens cleaner and rubbing it off with a microfiber cloth)
The results were not good . Clarity of vision is affected.
Hope the suggested way has a better outcome .
