Hi all

After reading through the archieves I have acertained that stripping a torx screw in juliets is a common problem. I have read of many creative and even scary ways of trying to remove the screw (drilling? Yikes!!!) but I have not seen anybody with quite the same problem I seem to have found myself in.
Apparently my brand spanking new polarized juliets bought from an OPD came brand new in the box not even from display and it already had a stripped screw right out of the box. Is this a common problem? I am not to worried about it as I can probably take it back and get an exchange, but it is a little heart breaking that QC was less than optimal.

someone might've returned it and they just resold it not knowing.

Like I said it was from an OPD. I have a friend that works for the store who ordered them direct from Oakley (they don't normally carry the polarized juliets in stock). It is not possible that they were returned.

There has been questions on the QC coming out of the X-metal facility.

they're hand assembled, so it could definately be stripped from the factory. I'd send it back, or have your OPD get a new one.

thanks for the reply guys. I had a feeling it was something like that. I also noticed on the one screw I can get out I can't actually see to pry the lense out once the screw has been removed. I mean it literally doesn't move at all. Are they starting to glue the lenses in place or something?

there are/were problems with lenses rattling a little bit, so maybe they've started putting silicone in there to fix it.

They're too far away from HQ! They're in the desert screwing around unsupervised.

One of my screws is stripped too and I pretty much gave up on it. I just searched but found nothing about a successful screw removal.

I had the same issue with a pair of Finitos that were in like-new condition with all original packaging. The gap between the screw holes was also larger than normal (once the stripped screw had been dislodged using a jeweler's screwdriver) making it impossible for the lens to seat properly even with a new screw. I thought a tune-up might address that problem, but I was mistaken.

I think they were in the desert for safety reasons. Only mildly sarcastic.

Next time just replace the retarded Torx screws with standard phillips or flathead screws of the same length/diameter/pitch, etc. Then say goodbye to problems with stripping.

I had a screw strip on me as well when I was trying to replace my lenses(JM73 is my witness). I sent them in to Oakley and they replaced it for me for free and got it back in a week. I heard horror stories about their repairs and shipping, I'm so thankful I wasn't a victim of that. Good luck bro, hopefully you get a replacement fast.

Yep, common problem these days. I got a Ruby Juliet direct from Oakley, and the screw in one orbital actually popped out the first time I wore them. They got sent back, and the pair I received as replacement had problems also. Hopefully the third pair is decent..

I forgot about this thread. My friend called a few other stores in the area and had one shipped to his location (this was back in July) the one we got when I brought it home had the same problem! I brought it back in and we ordered another one from another store and finally got one that worked. The only complaint I have (other than the fact that it took 3 tries to get a good pair) is that the right lense was loose right out of the box and I had to use a little electrical tape in the orbital to make it secure.
