Not silly at all. Packaging is a big part of any product. Just off the top of my head, I can think of a few evolutions of Oakley boxes:

- Clear plastic with white letters (early 90's)
- Corrugated black paperboard (late 90's)
- Black cardboard w/black & white picture(seems to be the most common)
- Yellow print w/thumbprint icon
- Gray print (Plate, Valve, Dartboard, Unknown)
- X-Metal w/perforated sleeve and coin
- Mag w/yellow sleeve and model card

This might be really anal, but the first shoe boxes were black right thru with a photo of the shoe, then they must have been saving money, cos only the outside was black, and they started to use the line drawings, and a little hole in the static logo got filled in too!
If anyone can get me any black boxes for shoes, can you let me know, I have about ten pairs with no boxes... :(
