So I see there is a new SI challenge coin for 2020 for us to chase.

There is also a Rx frame called the Tenon that, to me, seems to be modelled off/inspired by the Portal's design. It's a half frame model. Weird looking for an ophthalmic frame, but I'm sure it'll find its audience.

Some of the ladies from Kadri Adventures were wearing those new SI frames (SI Ballistic HNBL) yesterday at the Industry Day. Looks to be a pretty cool frame if you're into Oakley SI wraparounds and Rx.

There's also an anniversary release of the Frogskin with metal hinges (similar to the Japan-made ones from back in the day).

Is this a new Trillbe X? - eddyc

I think it's just a colour refresh. It was a while ago and I didn't really pay attention.

That's the Portal. Part of the upcoming R1 release I believe, along with stuff like the Lugplate and Trillbe X. Nothing exiting IMO, but you can judge for yourself when you see them.

I think that's one of the concept stuff off of Toby R's site (the former Oakley designer that was working on the Jannard brand).

The original internal training material for the Elite lineup said 1,500 of the 10th Anniversary TBII (the one with red unobtanium) would be made available to the public.

It was just too expensive to make, even a small run. $15k+ MSRP is quite a bit of change back in the mid-2000s. I don't think anyone would've been interested in paying that much money back before the O-Review existed.

Nonsensical and random rumour starting time: JJ is starting his own watch brand and calling it Montre Rouge. Pass it along.

Another brand I'm keeping an eye out on is Maybach Eyewear. Yes, the brand is connected to the car. Extremely nice finishing on their pieces; I kinda see them as an upscale Cartier for eyewear in that they use precious metals. Cartier's eyewear is extremely bland but is very expensive, while Maybach has very detailed finishing and even more absurdly priced (their Joker I model in all 18k gold is 21k Euro).

Maybach has some great stuff, but their design is less unique and takes cues that other brands have made popular (such as the floating lenses on Dita's Midnight Special or arms from Leisure Society, Matsuda or Chrome Hearts). I know that, since brands are getting all the top Japanese manufactures to work with them, it's getting impossible to encroach on each others' design elements, but I think if Maybach took their design in its own direction, they'll be an even better stand-out eyewear design house.

About 10 years back, JJ posted a pic of a Detonator-like watch with a metal band on one of his websites. Does anyone have a copy of that picture? I'm not sure if that pic is the same as the one from the recent FB post, but I find it interesting that we saw the KING a long time ago and just didn't realize it.

The 500 number came from Donnie and Holly Faulkner when info about the pair (and the Five 3.0) came out. They ran the Rolling O back in the day, and the Fire Scelzi R2 was exclusive to them for a bit, so the info is good.

But this is Oakley.

An employee has a certain level of knowledge, but the company is so big and multi-national that one employee may not have full knowledge of everything. I have no doubt that there are more than 500 Fire Scelzi R2s out there.

With Oakley, unless the marketing specifies a certain number or the product has a serial number, word-of-mouth production figures tend to be inaccurate. Even if they do have a serial number or number-of-production tied to it, Oakley doesn't always adhere to it. Examples: The original re-issue of the Frogskin back in 2007 had the Polished Clear/Violet Iridium Frogskins being limited to 3,000, but then it was later re-re-released again as regular production (albeit with a new SKU); The Police Pack was suppose to be limited to 500 but there are packs out there with a serial of over 500.
