MJ's a walking billboard for Oakley; he'll be wearing the O for the rest of his life no matter what they put out. I've even recently seen him in a pic wearing a Sutro, and he's even seen wearing less popular styles like the Felon in the past.

Anyone ever try these? Oak did you? - yelkao

I picked one up and gave a couple a try. It actually does taste quite like Coke, but it's more of a candy than a breath freshener by virtue of the flavour. Not a fan of the bad aftertaste.

Some eyewear brands are starting to make non-medical masks due to COVID. Parasite Eyewear's are some of the more interesting ones I've seen. I've pre-ordered a couple:

I was hoping that Oakley and ESS would've put out some masks, but they've focused on eyewear PPE instead (at least the Group 1 and Group 2 stylings are listed as such) with the clear collection:

I don't remember, but I suspect the parts number with "75-xxx" under the earsocks of Wires determines with earsock part to use or determine which the placement of the arm (ie. left or right arm, which model it corresponds to, etc.).

There's 6 of them, I think. I'm too lazy to find the official colourways, but have a look:

Pretty much most boxes from mid-late ‘90s to 2003-ish will have black boxes including:

EJ 2.0
EJ 3.0
E Wire 2.1
E Wire 2.0
Square Wire 2.0
Ten
Moon
Racing Jacket
Scar
Why 3

Some others I just don’t remember is something like the Four which came out in that era but I don’t remember it ever being in a black box. Same with the Wiretap. The New Frogskin I never paid attention to so I don’t remember but I would be it did have a black box.

Nope, never tried it. I probably should pick it up next time I'm at the grocery store. Will let you know.

I haven't watched the show, but I assume this scene with him wearing the A Wire is in it:

Valiant Comics (or Valiant Entertainment as they're known these days) were a big thing in the '90s and came up with many slick gimmick covers, including chromium covers. They went bankrupt for a bit after being bought out by video game company Acclaim, but have been back for almost 10 years now and have introduced several new types of gimmicks.

One of the coolest is a cover made out of carbon fiber:

I had won one recently by auction but the seller cancelled the order, probably because the price I won it at was so low compared to market value. Oh well, I'll get one eventually.

I have one of their "alien" head displays as well. I think all their display heads are pretty cool. Some of their rep cases are slick as well, as are their sunglass cases (Eyewear Patrol Pack and Tech Protector Case VI).

Is it just me or does the etching seem a little off?

When the etching was presented to us all those years ago, very few of us questioned it because "how can it be possible to fake such a thing????!!!" But the clarity that comes from over a decades' worth of experience and knowledge makes it seem a little suspicious. I know Ryan said the etching was done by somebody in Oakley UK (or something), but the font of the letters and numbers seem way off compared the typical font we see on X-metal etchings. The "1" for example seems assuredly different.

I did call telesales to see what's up. Waited in line for 20 minutes, too. Basically they told me:

1) They are backed up and don't know if/when the distribution centre can fulfill the order
2) They can't cancel the order via telesales and the only thing I can do is wait until it ships and then return the order, which I thought is baffling for a couple reasons: a. how does Oakley not have an option for users to cancel directly online - most companies that do e-commerce has a self-serve cancellation option, and b. how can it be that telesales cannot cancel my order directly?

I didn't want to spend more time then I've already invested, so I just left it at that. If the products come, great. If not, no worries. Ultimately I suspect they'll eventually cancel the order and issue a 25% code for my troubles. Oakley has the worst e-commerce capabilities I've ever seen.

I think the first time I've seen those BMW etched lenses was during one of the MFest events from a decade back. I forget which models they were on, and I can't seem to find the blog post, but that's where I remember first seeing them. Obviously they've continued through the years, but I don't know if they are connected to MFest.

There are tons of corporate or event commissions for logos on Oakley products. Most of the ones we see publicly are backpack, it seems, but there are tons on eyewear that we know about. Microbags, watches, goggles, etc.

One of the interesting ones I've seen lately is an etched lens with the Audemars Piguet (AP) logo. AP of course is one of the most highly respected watch brands, so it was interesting to see it on an Oakley product. Not sure if the logo was done by Oakley itself or a third party, but watch collectors will get a kick out of it:

The Meguru Yamaguchi collab is not bad. I didn't see the Frogskin as part of the blog post, but I thought I heard it mentioned that there be one of those as well.
