My name is Bob, I'm from Ohio. I graduated from Ohio State with a degree in mechanical engineering. I submitted my resume to Oakley, but I never heard from them. It was worth a shot, right?

I guess it all started back when I was a kid admiring my favorite baseball players who of course sported M Frames. I wrote a kiddy letter to Oakley and they were kind enough to send back a few ads, planting a seed for eternity.

I?d never really considered collecting until my status crossed over from full time student to full time employee. Having some expendable cash helped me take the plunge.

I always enjoy getting to know fellow reviewers, so say hi if you have time.

Nice addition Garth! Is that a sponsored athlete holding a bat, or just a model?

Missing from that image is a release date. Any idea when we can throw money at these?

That's a sweet looking lens O_taj1242!

These came in from the States and on the original pics I thought it was a reflection (this is why I needed natural light) but no, if you look closely across the Heater lens along the top of nose you can see a line . Yep another 4.55 pm Friday job from Oakley it looks like they missed part of the process ? It really is subtle and if I had ever seen it before I would say it is a deliberate two tone or graduate/fade but I haven't on an M Frame lens.

Given the age of the pair, I wonder if the lens top was somehow left exposed to light for years, but the bottom half was in shadow. Could it be fading causing the variation? Perhaps a foam M-frame case?

"SportsWear".... oh it's "SportsWear"

I wonder if they were made in the USA. A Labor Day item with US themes all over it which was made with non-US labor would be quite the parity.

Any idea what the "H|X" on the big plate is all about?

I have some and tried to get a decent comparison for this thread... just took me a few weeks to get around to it! I believe these are 5.56, 7.62, copper, and the OTTs are FMJ+. I'm not certain enough to bet the farm on it though.

Thanks Oak. You're like the dealer I never knew I had.

Dan, the best way to not long for a pair of these in clear is to buy the matte carbon and celeste at the same time. You'll be cured of your desire instantly.

I'm anxious to see satin toast.

Now this is a name I can get behind. Surprised it's not CNRL.

Most of this gear is not mine, but I got to use it for a talking-head style shoot last year.

And this setup was for an all-day walking tour video shoot - monopod to cylindrical battery pack grip to gimbal to GoPro. Keeping it as light and mobile as possible.

Looking good Francisco! Thanks for the comparison shots.

Dann, where's the old photo of Tick with the uncut shield on his face? I feel like these might not be too far off from that.

I agree with you Ken! Although I haven't worn the Kato, comparing this photo with the field of view you get from the M-Frame, this looks like it would be completely distracting.

I choose to believe Lindor is a fan of the P.W. Club, and this is his shout out to Ford.

Hi Jeroen! It sounds like you're in the right place. There is always room for more stories and history here, and there is plenty of room for prescription models as well.

Are we guessing that $10k of each will be going towards that $140,000 foundation donation. Leaves Oakley with $4k for the trouble, which is 33% more than the Gold OTT for two X-Metals. Still not interested, but if it's a charity thing, then I could see it in a different light. - Dann

That was my thought when I saw the numbers. If my mental math switch is toggled on, that's the only way to read that. I wonder how many of the 14 pairs are handouts like the ones Lillard was wearing. He wears number zero, so perhaps 20 years from now we'll see serial number zero through 13.... or through 14.

I do sort of complement my Oakley collecting by grabbing digital catalogs, and of course fleshing out the DB, so who knows. - Dann

No! No... don't compare your humanitarian work of art that we all enjoy to this. Where are the timelines, the scans of old print, the spotlights, the PW shots, the display setups? Not even in the same ballpark!

Nice video. Did I see a clip in there from Top Gun?

SS 106. I can only assume there are at least 5-6 of these out there then, right?

No problems there. A perfect Splice collection doesn't need changing.
Dec 31, 2020 1:29 PM
How many Splices have changed in your collection since then? I feel like it's been relatively unchanged for these past ten years.
