That was the general feeling from when the initial pictures were discovered. I don't think the PBII is all that bad, it's just, again, the price point that hurts it. Moreso now that the elite status has been removed.
And without any real knowledge, I'm willing to bet something like this happened. The Pit Boss was supposed to be limited. When the run was extended, people got upset at that too. Then with the fall of the entire Elite line, they couldn't very well keep one model going, so they retooled the glasses slightly, put the elliptical icon back on, and now that will be the standard release until sales dictate that something else will prove better.
I'd bet that if they reduced the price down to $200 where it should be, people would complain that they were swindled into buy the original. It's lose/lose with some of these things. - Dann
I would have to agree with this sentiment. It is hard to start too high and come down, people will flip out. There would be a lot of pissed off owners for sure.
Now as for the quality, I have handled tons of PB 1, and several PB 2. The 2 is far more flexible, much more of the Chinese type O Matter where it is springy feeling, and the mounting is much more custom friendly (screws instead of posts). I don't particularly care for the Unobtanium trim on it, but that's just me. Honestly, unless it is a sport specific frame, it doesn't belong. The titanium isn't really less so to speak, but it is lighter. I mean you see less on the stems, but there is more on the backside balancing it out...The fit is however, leaps and bounds better. No more headaches within 45 minutes of wear.
PB 1, it was terrible in fit. Horrible headaches, heavy, and just not great as one would expect. That could be a reason for killing it as well. Over priced is an understatement by a LONG SHOT. The X Metals had more going into to manufacturing and materials and cost half as much. Sure, they added the 50 cent storage box from China, and while it was nice for presentation, didn't equate for damn near double pricing the shades. Sure, we all ate them up, but the secondary market showed what true pricing should have been in the $300-$400 range and special editions at what normal retail was. Just another move they have made that didn't make sense.
I do like the hex icon though. Really sad that if in fact the elite lineup is history, that icon is with it. Could really have been a new opportunity for them to push a new line like the stretch, square o, and so on.
