I was digging through a box of empty boxes seeing if I have any pairs that matched up and I ran across something interesting. I found an old gold Five box with a label for 2.0 Dark Amber / Gold Iridium Polarized with the number 12-807

I also have a pair of 2.0 Dark Amber / Bronze Iridium Polarized with the same 12-807 number on the box. It is a later white Icon polarized box.

Did Oakley release 2 different pairs with the same part number?

Does anyone have the GIP pair with the box?

Thanks!

Bronze Iridium was just the old name for Gold Iridium. Sometimes it went by just Bronze Polarized (without the Iridium title even though non-iridium polarized lenses would come later on). Soon after, Bronze then became more known for the base tint vs the mirror coating.

We noted this in the Name Change page a while back. I imagine this is a similar situation as the Jet Black/Polished Black name swaps that happened around the same time.

Thanks for the info Dann!

It looks like it is an actual bronze lens though w/o the gold iridium finish. I'll try to find both lenses and hold them side by side.

I dont know that it matters but the date on the GIP box is 2001, the date on the BP is 2005, which would be backwards of the timeline presented.
