my favourite is bose, but think this company is too popular and so you have to pay heavy prices. The system which Lexus is using is also very good, can't remind on the name.

iam using my pc with logitech thx system, it is also make a great sound

I would Highly recomend the Panasonic SC-HT920, its 1000 watts and has a 5 disc dvd/cd/mp3/VCD player, its got amazing sound, I have it hooked up to my tv, Xbox 360, Computer, ps2, gamecube, and digital cable box and the system makes them all sound wonderful.

Tubes still delivers the best in audio. If you consider home theater, you can build around yamaha DSP-z9 with european speakers. But then,like Mike said, its yor style and budget that will be the determining factor. Rule of thumb here is : Bigger budget better equipment.

Yeah, you really need to specify a budget to get a decent answer.

My dream system would be B&O wired throughout the house.

But otherwise some mid-range (depending on your reference) gear I like:

Speakers - Paradigm
Turntables - Rega
Amps, Receivers, etc. - NAD (hold your jokes)
Heaphones - Grado
All-in-one - Tivoli

Sounds like Mike is the man to talk to.

Hi, guys. Thanks for your advice.

To be frank, I am new to Hi-fi. At this moment, I would like to get a mini Hi-fi, budget like USD500-USD700. My top list now is this model...Sony DHC-AZ7DM
http://www.sony.com.my/sonystyle/product/productinfo_homeav.asp?Subcategoryid=141

What do you guys think? In my country, not many expect can assembly Hi-fi parts like what your country do. So we only purchase what offer by manufacturer.

JF....if you are thinking of that style of system then you'll be happy with most of them out there. SONY always does a good job of them, but you may also want to consider Pioneer as another option.

I've always been a fan of the component type system, ie Amp/reciever, DVD, Larger Speakers etc these will always give you a richer and more detailed sound, but will also lighten you wallet. A reasonable system like this in Australia will be between $4000-10,000. But the sky's the limit.
Some of my personal favourite brands are: Pioneer, Denon, Toshiba, for electronics, JM Lab and B&W for speakers. Yes there is B&O but I've never found that it never gives you "bang for buck" yes it gives a lot of bang, but it takes a lot of buck.

As an example JM Lab makes speakers from $500 to $135,000 so there is a lot of scope.

Budget = Midi System
Decent = Component System
Over the Top = what ever you want

Regarding top end stuff,Like Mike said,it all depends how far you want to go, and in what direction.
A complete setup like B&O, or separates.
You always pay a lot for the styling with Bang and Olufsen,It does sound good,but not great like some top end separates manufacturers like;

Agreed. I bet even a Denon mini setup with two Mission shelf speakers would beat a Bose setup. They're sooo overpriced for the sound, it's ridiculous. The same can be said of B&O. If you want to pay those big bucks, follow what Lee said.

Out-of-the-box hifi are getting better this days. Manufacturers have poured commendable effort in improving the audio-video quality they deliver. Denon, marantz, pioneer and yamaha are among those with out-of-the-box system that I came across with satisfying quality of audio-video.

Personally, I'm all over the place with my setup: While all of my components are Sony, I have 2 M&K subs, a set of M&K satellites and a set of JBL towers for main speakers, Boston center and Polk Audio rears. So many brands from being assembled over time, but sounds pretty good. Persoally, I've developed a soft spot for M&K ... would probably go that route next millenia I get to buy all new speakers.

Best speaker brand in general is Wilson IMO. If you are planning to go all out, grab the Alexandria X-2... best speakers I've ever heard, they even sound great out a low end source. For a good cdp, it's hard to beat Wadia's 861, and for an integrated amp I'd recommend a DIY. There are plenty of builders out there if you don't want to build your own. I don't know too much about the low-mid range speakers, but my cheap Swan M200 multimedia speakers are very good for the price..

Also I'd stay as far away from Bose as possible. They are the McDonalds of audio. They advertise a lot, everyone has heard of them, and the uninformed think they are the greatest speakers available because they are the highest priced brand available @ Best Buy/Circuit City. I have heard plenty of speakers & headphones, and Bose is very overpriced for the quality they offer. My current TV speakers are the the Bose Acousimass 6 (they came with the house, and I don't watch enough TV to warrant better speakers..) and they sound horrible. I can go on and on about the bloated one note bass, no mids and extremely peaky and non detailed highs. Plus, the build quality is the worst I've ever seen. The "cute" little cubes are just plastic cases with no dampening and cheap paper drivers. The Acoustimass sub is even worse. umm... as Allen said enough about Bose, i'll keep my mouth shut! :P
as for B&O, i don't have favourable opinions about them either, although those A8 earphones do look great. but that's all it is with these two brands, all look... no substance. there's a particular term for the two brands, it's not HiFi but merely StyleFi.

my brother has an awesome setup with B&W speakers, Arcam CD player, Arcam pre-amp, and Rotel amplifiers.

as a rule of thumb, you're almost always going to get the best sound out of separate components instead of a pre-packaged system. having the option of mixing and matching components to tailor your sound preference has always been the hallmark (or financial death) of an audiophile. you can get a simple pre-amp with a stereo (2 channel) amplifier with a pair good speakers as a music system that'll blow anyone away, or go all out with a multichannel home theatre, it all depends on your style and budget.

Hmm.. An all in one system. I've noticed that it is not specified to play DVD+R/RW. You will not be able to watch DVD recorded in this format.

"Sources: DVD/Audio/Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-R/RW (Video Format), CD, CD-R/RW, SVCD/VCD, MP3/JPEF/WMA (CD-R/RW), Tuner, Cassette"

No, you can play DVD-R/RW as above mention. To be frank, we get lots of new models quicker here as we are the manufacturer.The sound was not bad as the price was quite reasonable. I choose them compare to Sony because Sony was quite sensetive to some CD.

I don't know if the US have heard of it, but I have a Musical Fidelty System (2 Amps, Digilog, Preamp) along with a Rega Planar 3 Turntable, and Technics CD player - coming out of Musical Fidelty MC-4 Speakers (Bi-wired).

This sounds absolutely amazing, but is more geared towards classical / jazz music.

That system lives downstair, but in my Bedroom, got a Pioneer NS-7 Lifestyle system, a very good system, but definitely not in the same league!
