This will only work on fade frames because the color is painted over a crystal clear base and can be scratched off.

For other translucent frames (e.g. Crystal Black, Amber, Brown Smoke, etc.), the plastic itself is colored.

I am aware of four frames that can be cleared:

Whiskey MD
Brown Fade MD
Whiskey Fat Cat
Black Fade Monster Doggle

Eddy is right on the money, and I think I had said that info at the top of this thread...

Just a word of advice, if you plan on using the clear frame with a lens for when the sun is out and bright, a lot of light will come into your face via the frame.

Thats why I put Ti clear lens in mine, Alex did the same thing also.

so how many people have cleared pairs now?

I have 4...I hate changing lenses so I have a pair for every set of lenses that I wanted (Emerald, Ti-Clear, Ruby, Bronze) I'm probably going to do a fifth pair and put in liquid metal lenses from Keystone once I get paid next month.

Would this work on the 10w40 Monster Dogs?

Wouldn't you want to use a frame that is slightly easier to find? I would think whiskey might be your best bet! Wait...maybe those are just as hard to find.

the brown fade i picked up from my O store, when they got discontinued someone missed one during transfers to vaults and i found it months later. Ive never seen the whiskey or 10w40 at any vaults ive been to. im assuming they are just as hard to find.

I dont mind though, the brown fade was nice but kinda boring, the clear is way better, next project is putting different icons on it.

Yeah ill do a pw soon. They are pretty sick.

Was asking about the 10w40 because I saw that HM at the bay has some in stock. But I've just noticed that he's also got whisky Fat Cats and for under $60 too. So as some many people have already got clear Monster Dogs and I can get Cats for I think I may have to get some of those.

The down side is that I'll then need to get Ti Clear lenses custom cut but having a never produced frame does mean that one needs a pair of never produced lenses too. Thinking about it again, the clear frame really would suit a pair of ruby clear lenses. I think I see a plan coming together!

10w40 is colored throughout the O Matter rather than a coating like the Whiskey and Brown Fade. So no.

And why are these rare Monster Dogs coming out after I finally broke down and ordered them from the UK.

i don't know if anybody else has attempted this, but i discovered (on accident) that you can scrape the paint off the icons that come with it to reveal a lovely chrome icon underneath

Vraiment bien Francois, je sais pas trop combien ca va etre efficace en plein soleil, mais cote look, c'est excellent.

Well done, its always nice to see that we have another option once/if a fade frame starts to peel off, it gives the frame a second life and a cool custom look to it.

When I cleared my MD I used alcohol pads. It took maybe 4 of them, and 20-30 minutes. So now I've got a clear frame with gunmetal icons, and I put in Deep Blue Polarized lenses, they look bad a$$!!
