I just spotted ifynanceu's 05 wire in the PW thread and have to hang my head in shame as this is the first I have seen it. I also need one. Quick!

Can anyone give me an indication of fit, looks, weight, material, cost and availability as I have never clapped eyes on this thing in my life and it looks damned amazing.

Is it still in production (I have noticed the red boxes against it in the catalogue but does that mean it is new, no longer made or not yet updated in the DB?

And last but not least, any more pictures (from any angle) would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks guys.

I am now returning to my dark corner to contemplate my new found ignorance of the O!

It wasn't as well known because it is an Rx frame that they happened to make some plano sunglasses out of.

Thanks Tick,
I kinda guessed that but am in the dark regarding everything else.

How much did they go for?
Were they C5?
Were they limited?
Was the fit suitable for larger heads?

Sorry to add even more questions but I really want one.

It was one of the first frames from the larger initial line of Rx frames launched near 2000/2001. I forget the exact year but it was after the OO release. There was Why 1, Why 2, o1, o2, Why 3, o5 and eventually and o6 and o7. I think I paid $180 for just the frame for an Rx back then. They weren't cheap. Very Juliet-esque in my eye on a smaller scale in a flat thick rimmed style trendy for the time. Silver, Cobalt and Brown in 2 sizes. C5 alloy with a stem the had a fair amount of spring and an extension that sat into a faux flex coupler seat near the rim. Even having 2 sizes it was only a 2mm difference per lens.

Even when I thought I wouldn't use them as Rx having to add the cost of a lens I had called O asking they would ever be sold as a standard wire there answer was "No." For that I can't say they were ever release en mass to OPDs and other retailers. They're out of production now and have been for probably well over a year. Perhaps longer than 2 even. What's popping up of late are leftover frames outfitted with lenses found at Vaults or the PL sales for $50 - $60. Some sellers on ebay and even a few members here passingon what they're getting at the Vaults.

Here are pics of each frame color.

They kind of remind me of a all metal framed Why 1

Phil got it exactly right, they were RX frames for a long time and then plano sunglass lens started popping up every now and then at various locales.

as for if they fit on larger heads, i have the larger version (i have the frame size numbers at home so i'll add it in tonight) in Cobalt/RX Clear and they were coaxed on my big melon from my optometrist's adjustments, so yeah... they can fit on larger heads, it's just the style does look a bit small one me (like most other frames though...). but the O5 just looks so cool with the thicker than usual orbitals (you're right Tick, they do look similar to Why 1).

Here are some pics I took from when a local shop got in a pretty impressive shipment of 05 eyewear - which was about 4 months back now. They had fire, ice and VR50 Emerald. At the time, I picked up 3 pairs of the VR50 Emerald since I knew the lens was rare.

That one haunts my dreams. As does the possibility of Brown with a sun lens. My Brown Rx would be small and the sunnies larger so I can't swap around lenses.

I don't get it, Oogie couldn't give his away several months ago, and now all of a sudden everyone wants them? Quick, pick them up before they're popping up on Ebay with $400 BIN's...

Sample O-Review scenario:

1. Random O-Reviewer buys never before raved about eyewear, or new eyewear is released.

2. O-Reviewers complain about how unattractive or technologically unadvanced said eyewear is and how Oakley is getting away from its roots.

3. Three months pass by.

3. Random O-Reviewer buys said eyewear and posts a picture.

4. Other O-Review members rush to buy up all said eyewear, leaving a trail of mangled credit card bills and college funds in their wakes.

5. Remnants of said eyewear randomly pop up on that hated website for insane prices.

6. O-Review members complain about prices of said eyewear on hated website.

7. Repeat ad-infinitum.

Let's see if we can get that cycle started with some less desireable models or, better yet, a different brand so we can take the focus off the one's we actually want

That cycle sounds about right. I'm still trying to get the Zero L to follow that process.

the O5 came in two different sizes so the larger one can work for those with larger melons... however even the larger version (50-19 as opposed to the smaller 48-19) looks slightly smallish on me but i don't care, these frames look too frikkin cool.

here's mine:

and yeah, i thought Oogie's pairs went fast too.

Weird that a frame intended for Rx has no lens screw- at least, I don't see any lines in the pictures everyone posted.

I think they still had a few left I would be happy to work the same for you as I did for Bong...I picked them up for him and will be shipping them off and he paid the cost of the glasses plus local taxes, paypal fee, shipping, and a little bit for my gas to go out there. I don't mind doing it to help the fellow members out here.

I am not sure. I know they had the silver with fire, but I couldn't tell you anything about others..I personally can't wear them, way too small...You can call them (909) 390-8105 and they can tell you...If so, I may be able to pick them up the same as I have offered others. I can't make any promises of what they have, but I can of my best attempt to help.

again, thanks for your help with the O5s and the Fluoro Pack, Josh. can't wait to see the O5 and those Monsterdogs in person.

as far as i know, the Sunglasses versions of O5s came in Silver/Fire Iridium, Silver/Black Iridium, Silver/VR50 Emerald Iridium, and Cobalt/Dark Grey... i think.
