Ok, I really like the new system of the classifieds, and I do appreciate this site as much as anyone else. I was just wondering if I may make a suggestion :)

I like to browse the items for sale to see what I would be interested in but I think the section where people are looking to buy things gets ignored by many since the list is soooo long of people selling stuff. I think if it would be possible to have a 20 or so day limit on how long a request stays for something you are looking for the list would A) rotate faster and B) be easier to look through since it would be full of things people are truley looking for since they would have to make an effort to repost thier object they are searching for. If this is possible than I think swapping the selling items and the buying items would work so you could see what people are looking for and then zip down to what people are selling.

I love my collection but when people are looking for something the price seems to be more in favor of the seller since the consumer is "demanding" the product. I think people will get more contacts on things they are looking for. Heck, I have responded to people who are selling something I dont want, but looking for something I would not mind parting with just because I saw thier desired item in thier list of acceptable trades.

And if that does not make sense I will gladly try to re-word it after I get some sleep ;)

Good idea, but why not just make it searchable by keyword (eg. Juliet, Ruby) instead?

Great idea indeed, too many people post stuff in there, and dont bother deleting it when they sell it on Ebay instead.

Also a seperate or different color scheme for the wanted would be nice, Paul makes a good point; I think that section gets ignored.

Yeah, not sure why but it just seems like the classified area gets overlooked most of the time, maybe I see it wrong though?

Yeah I need to work on that. I may make two columns so both are always at the top. Then they can be as long as needed without overshadowing each other.

Cool, thanks for the heads up dann, take your time, I am sure the misses needs her attention too. make sure she doesn't get overshadowed. I think that would be worse (in the long run) than people not getting responses to what they are looking for.

Thanks Dann! I truly did not realize they were want ads as far back as March! I wonder how many are dead by now?
Maybe an auto expiration date filter? To auto purge older items...?

Anyway thanks for tweaking...

I thought I put in an expiration. Guess I'll have to recheck.

One more thing to improve the classifieds. Many times when people are looking to do a trade they say Check my wishlist. Is there a way to make the sellers username a link to their member page directly from the classified ad? Similar to the "Contact" & "Image" links on the right.

Is it me or is Rule #2 in the Classified section being ignored more and more??

I'm getting tired of seeing "Make me an offer" "You name the price" or the ever popular "neg."

It is, and I've been meaning to make a post about this, so here it is.

As noted, rule #2 states that a valid price is a must. This isn't ebay and worse we don't want people gathering multiple bid and then choosing the best. I'll give the classifieds a few days to be changed, and then we'll take off any ones that do not list a static price.

Can you just change the code so it requires either a numerical value or to click a box to make it trade-only?

The rule is written so that it sounds like this applies to For Sale items only. Is this actually the case, or are we making a bad assumption? Because I'd think for Wanted items, it'd be hard to list a price.

Dawn's looking for a wallet, but we're not sure what a fair price is considering it seems like it's discontinued. We don't want to post a price that's so low people don't even bother to make us an offer, but we also don't want to pay too much. And of course, we don't want to just say "We'll pay $150 for it". If someone's willing to offer it cheaper, they won't if they see that.

Suggestions?

I was thinking the same. I never really know what a fair price to pay because I don't know what it's worth to the other person. If I put an offer that's way higher than expected, obviously the seller is going with that. I don't know...
