As you may have noticed from the Latest purchase thread, my new R2's arrived today. There's been a few mixed reviews so far but here is what I've found after wearing them for the last 6 hours (yes, the sun came out in London!)
I guess I'll outline the main points...

Size/Weight: Being half frames they feel noticably lighter than a pair of juliets (juliets = 42grammes and R2's = 38grammes) but the nosebombs on the R2's are quite narrow which means after wearing them for a while I found they tended to leave two red marks on my nose. Other than that, the frame and lens size feels just right for me.

Quality of X Metal Casting: I've noticed a couple of tiny pits in the frame but they don't detract from the overall appearance of the glasses and from anything less than a very close up inspection you would never spot the flaws.

General Frame: The frame itself is nicely symmetrical with the only downside being that the right side earstem touches the lens when you close it, however the left side doesn't so if you close the left first this isn't a problem. It's just a bit annoying. Also the frame doesn't fit either the single or double display stands, having tried every possible position to get them on the stands it just won't fit. Thats a minor issue really, I just need a different stand for them.

If anyone has any other questions just ask...
Here are some more pics...

they really are something special. Nice one Adam. The earstems look very elegant (for lack of a better word)

Do they flex more than the other x-metals?
Are you not concerned about the exposure of the lens if the earstem is touching it? I take it you arent to bothered about the pitting. It didnt bother me on my x-metal juliets but it shows up better on the carbon finish.

Certainly if I were in your position I would be exstatic.

PS, wasnt trying to cheat you out of your glory thread, just thought it deserved its own section.

Oh and what does 1mao mean

Thanks William, I can't say that I noticed the frame flexing anymore than my juliets if anything I'd say it actually flexed less. I am a little concerned about the lens but as long as I close the other earstem first they never touch it, it's just when I forget and have to open and close them again in the right order!
The pitting doesn't really worry me too much, if anyone was to say anything I probably make some remark about it being a side effect of trying to control 25000 watts of raw power when making my glasses! ;)

As for the thread thing, don't worry about it mate, I just found it funny when I thought about my 'glory thread'!!
Oh and lmao = Laughing my arse off!

yes i am,
ive got a carbon and a polished frame so those are out, that just leaves x-metal with boring black iridium polar and plasma with gold.
id much prefer a metalic bronze with a bronze polar lens.
i shall wait and see what oakley comes up with.

I remember seeing a pic of some bronze hatchets. Were those a special make up or just an impressive photoshop effort?

Photoshop effort on the Hatchet.

Adam, they look spectacular. The Carbon looks real smooth, so does the Polished. I am really liking them but I'm in Lex's boat on this one. I need more colors, and more bronze based lenses.

I have some side by side comparision shots but they're on my home pc (I'm at work at the moment) so I'll put them up when I get in tonight.
As for the colour thing, I agree with Phil and Alexis that there aren't enough light coloured combo's, I certainly have a lot of 'dark' frames (X metal/Black/Carbon etc) which is why I think my next pair will have to be Plasma/Gold R2's or maybe some new gold A wires...

fook Adam your after another pair of Romeo II's already?
they must be as cool as they look, i must say they look better on you than the juliets.
dont you wanna wait for some more colours till you go for a second pair?.

Phil, how bout we do a shawshank redemption and write 2 letters a week to oakley asking for some different R2 colours.

Hey Alexis, something strange just happened, just before I read this post someone commented on the pics I was uploading and told me exactly the same thing, that the R2's look much better on me than the juliets! Looks like I'm definitley getting those R2's now!
Mind you, I'm pretty sure I look badass in whatever oakleys I'm wearing... right...?
; )

LOL, i think i look most badass in my dark frames. the mag fours especially and also the carbon/ice juliets.
but my GF likes me best in the hatchets so i guess i know nothing.

Lex, I am already hitting them up twice a week for larger Hatchet nose bombs. I am sure we'll get some new R2 colors, but it may not be for a year. Do they really want 8 combos avail at once? Well, maybe, but even all the Juliet combos didn't hit at once.

They should have been called The Juliet 2 because those damn things are an upgraded pair of Juliets with the lower half of each orbital missing.

Saying that makes me wonder what they have in store for Juliet 2. If at all. I would hate to see the intake ports on the orbitals go away. They're one of the defining features.

Has a Juliet 2 been announced? I don't think there is much to improve on in the way of the 'inaugral' X-Metals. Leave the names alone, and name any new X-Metal design a new name.

The Romeo 2 is a unique design. They should have called it...X-Metal Fifty, as in 50 percent of the orbital is missing or some crap. I dunno. Anything would have been better than Romeo 2. They are wicked glasses. But lets be honest, they have absolutley nothing to do with the original (same material maybe).

But I've had this argument before. I think the X-Metals are prestigious enough to skip the whole 'sequelisation'.
