The world?s first optical frame to incorporate ultra-lightweight magnesium metal within a ceramic mantle. Liquefied at 1100®F, the performance alloy is injected into precision engineered molds within a timeframe of less than 30 milliseconds. Sealing the metal in a protective ceramic mantle requires a turbine that rotates at 60,000 rpm in order to disperse ceramic polymer nanoparticles. For a secure and comfortable fit, the new frame will include spring-hinge mechanisms, as well as Unobtainium® nosebombs and earsocks. Flex couplers are incorporated at strategic points in the frame geometry, tuning flexibility while retaining structural integrity. The end result is a metal frame that meets the durability requirements of sports professionals while offering all-day comfort by minimizing weight.

As far as the optics --the best!! The ceramic is flaking off.
No parts available --nosepiece and earsocks.
Called cust. rep. --thay said they will give me $50 credit if I shipped these to them and decided to buy a new pair(not the same model though--they're discontinued).

The durability coupled with the lightweight characteristics of these frames ensures the Magnesium Switch a place of prominence in the Oakley Hall of Fame. The black Iridium offers excellent protection from bright-light conditions, while the spring hinges further enhance the frames and allow a comfortable fit. The only drawback to possibly note is that the spring hinges appear to have plastic inserts rather than a more durable material, such as aluminum.

Weight - 37 gm. These are absolutely fantastic sunglasses. I have the Dark Carbide's with Black Iridium. I'm an Asian (ie. flat faced) and have a big head (59 cm circumference). These babies sit nicely and feel secure. Coverage isn't quite as good as some of the other Oakleys you may have, but certainly not as bad as the Mag 4s or the Madmans. They feel well balanced and "solid". The texture of the frame is simply sublime (I've always wanted to use "sublime" in a review). They have the sort of frame which makes you want to pick them up and touch them. Some grippy mobile phone cases have a similar feel. The feel is a sort of rubbery matte finish to them. They feel nice and solid and the shape appeals to me, especially the Oakley Valve like lower lens ridge that protrudes like a sports car's front lower spoiler. The black iridium lenses I have seem, quite dark compared to the other Oakleys I own. I also like them because they have the nose piece like the Juliets, but aren't as tight as a pair of Juliets. This is helped by mild spring in the arms, which help with the fit. The only thing I don't love about these sunglasses are the fact that the arms (when wide open) seem to leave a gap with the frame. It's hard to describe, but it almost seems that they don't quite fit properly together. Apart from that, probably one of my most favourite pairs of Oakleys! These can be had for about $250 USD on eBay. Well worth it, I have to say! :)

1st of all...***I LOVE THESE SUNGLASSES*** !!

I have been in the Optical field for about 13 years and I have owned 100's upon 100's of sunglasses, many of them Oakley. Most of the retail stores I was employed with were Oakley Dealers. I purchased my Mag Switch almost immediately upon there release because of there extremely appealing look. BTW...even Oakley retailers were never given a discount either! I am an avid Golfer, Downhill Skier and avid outdoors men, I have worn my Mag Switch so much it would make you sick!! The self adjusting bridge and spring loaded hinges make this the most versatile fitting sunglasses I have seen. My point is, although many comments have been made about the ceramic coating, I feel compelled to comment that in the 7 years I have owned these glasses and the regular wear and use I have given these, aside from 2 very small scratches along the front of the eyewire, the ceramic coating looks as it did when I bought them.
Hands down the most comfortable and most intriguing looking pair of sunglasses I have ever owned next to my Medusa...lol!! The Oakley Mag Switch, in my opinion, warrants a TOP 5 placing in any Sunglass Hall of Fame.
**If you don't like your Mag Switch, let me know...I'll buy them in a heartbeat!
