As far as the optics --the best!! The ceramic is flaking off.
No parts available --nosepiece and earsocks.
Called cust. rep. --thay said they will give me $50 credit if I shipped these to them and decided to buy a new pair(not the same model though--they're discontinued).

The durability coupled with the lightweight characteristics of these frames ensures the Magnesium Switch a place of prominence in the Oakley Hall of Fame. The black Iridium offers excellent protection from bright-light conditions, while the spring hinges further enhance the frames and allow a comfortable fit. The only drawback to possibly note is that the spring hinges appear to have plastic inserts rather than a more durable material, such as aluminum.

Weight - 37 gm. These are absolutely fantastic sunglasses. I have the Dark Carbide's with Black Iridium. I'm an Asian (ie. flat faced) and have a big head (59 cm circumference). These babies sit nicely and feel secure. Coverage isn't quite as good as some of the other Oakleys you may have, but certainly not as bad as the Mag 4s or the Madmans. They feel well balanced and "solid". The texture of the frame is simply sublime (I've always wanted to use "sublime" in a review). They have the sort of frame which makes you want to pick them up and touch them. Some grippy mobile phone cases have a similar feel. The feel is a sort of rubbery matte finish to them. They feel nice and solid and the shape appeals to me, especially the Oakley Valve like lower lens ridge that protrudes like a sports car's front lower spoiler. The black iridium lenses I have seem, quite dark compared to the other Oakleys I own. I also like them because they have the nose piece like the Juliets, but aren't as tight as a pair of Juliets. This is helped by mild spring in the arms, which help with the fit. The only thing I don't love about these sunglasses are the fact that the arms (when wide open) seem to leave a gap with the frame. It's hard to describe, but it almost seems that they don't quite fit properly together. Apart from that, probably one of my most favourite pairs of Oakleys! These can be had for about $250 USD on eBay. Well worth it, I have to say! :)

1st of all...***I LOVE THESE SUNGLASSES*** !!

I have been in the Optical field for about 13 years and I have owned 100's upon 100's of sunglasses, many of them Oakley. Most of the retail stores I was employed with were Oakley Dealers. I purchased my Mag Switch almost immediately upon there release because of there extremely appealing look. BTW...even Oakley retailers were never given a discount either! I am an avid Golfer, Downhill Skier and avid outdoors men, I have worn my Mag Switch so much it would make you sick!! The self adjusting bridge and spring loaded hinges make this the most versatile fitting sunglasses I have seen. My point is, although many comments have been made about the ceramic coating, I feel compelled to comment that in the 7 years I have owned these glasses and the regular wear and use I have given these, aside from 2 very small scratches along the front of the eyewire, the ceramic coating looks as it did when I bought them.
Hands down the most comfortable and most intriguing looking pair of sunglasses I have ever owned next to my Medusa...lol!! The Oakley Mag Switch, in my opinion, warrants a TOP 5 placing in any Sunglass Hall of Fame.
**If you don't like your Mag Switch, let me know...I'll buy them in a heartbeat!

Ok, the Mag switch looks amazing, but the flaking off was a rip off. Bought these babies in France and not cheep. They got a lot of attention and I personally liked how they looked on me. Liked the hinges, the coldness of the magnesium but the more i'd sweat, the more it would flake off! i was really disappointed.

Today I drove an hour each way to get a couple used oakley pairs for only 40 bucks, it was a crapshoot considering I didn't know the model of one of them. I knew the others were square wire 2.0 and those were nice enough, but all I knew about these were from a blurry low-res picture! So I got the glasses and was instantly amazed they were metal, at first I didn't know for sure if it was plastic or not. Later on, curious, I scoured the internet to find the model I had, and was amazed to find I had gotten $230 glasses for $40 and that isn't even including the Square Wire 2's!!!

Anyway, I love these glasses and was lucky to get them for a deal!

While reviewing the wiretap,I said that if I were about to pick just two models from the whole oakley range, the one would be the aforementioned.Well, the other one would equally positively be the mag switch. The distinguished design, along with the equally unique-in the chronichles of oakley- application of magnesium within a ceramic mantle, for the purposes of a pair of sunglasses,is enough to make them stand out of any given oakley collection. Some might ask:would you choose them over x metal xx(which I really adore)?Well, yes,I would!
It doesn't have to do only with the magnesium. After all the frame is rigid,up to the point that I feel it uncomfortable(I got used to it after a few hour though),when wearing it for the first time, which made me appreciate the o-matter range, that so adopts to the shape of my face, and tends to be so flexible. But the charm of mag switch is a totally different thing:The perfect grip.it grips to the face as if it was your skin itself!!!No wonder why oakley described them as a pair that was addressed to athletes.Only my straight jackets can be compared to them in terms of grip.Even the valves that had the perfect contact with my face now seem loose.
The design:nothing else looks alike them.Even the earstem unobtainium pieces are unique, with these golf ball alike holes in them, which make the frame more extreme and aggresive. The picture is completed with all the round and rectangular elements fusion of the orbitals.Even the nosebridge part is more aggresive of its x metal counterpart.
For the convenience of the wearer, the hinges do a really good work(I told you,the fit is amazing),however, the frame is not as flexible as I would expect in the bridge. The ti copper color contributes a lot in the overall appearance of the frame, but I have to admit that the pearl/fire combo is exactly what expresses what the mag switch is all about better. The only complaint that i have is the ice lenses, which I don't like in general, but they fit to the frame color anyway.
I know what you will say. That because of the ceramic falling to pieces, they are doomed to stay in the display.NO!!!I intend to wear them as much I can,and to also give them as much wear and tear as I can as well. They were designed to be worn in activities, sports, hobbies, and everyday life, and that is exactly what I intend to do.Only when they will serve me well, moreover, when they will not be able to serve me any more they will be dismissed.I have said it before, and I will say it again. They were released during the golden era of oakley(late 90's-early 00's),and me ,having them,is like a dream come true.I will not quit from wearing them now that I have them.I just wish that oakley will surprise us again with new breakthroughs like this!!!

Very Juliet/Romeo like, but less flexible. These get astonishingly cold to the touch, like a splash of cold water; must be the magnesium. I would like to have seen these with Ruby Iridium, the Fire although nice just don't have the same pizazz. They don't give the same lower eye coverage as my Juliets or Straight Jackets, nor do I find them as comfortable, but they do look cool so they do a lot of sittin pretty in my display.

I've owned these a cple of yrs now and they are really great.
I couldn't be more upset that the frame is slowly falligng apart.... at least for what the color's worth.

I this wasn't the case it would score 5/5 in stead of 3/5

I keep these in my car for permanent driving glasses now... but I'be bought a few other pairs for other use.

I was always after a pearl/fire irdium pair, came so close once, even tried them on! (most comfortable to date - mid 2008) but when I came back a week later, they were sold & they had been discon ='( so i spent extra and got the ruby juliets.. a bittersweet victory?

but as fate would have it, a new hock shop opened up, and curious me had to take a look second hand pair (ice irdium) $80aus ($60us) couple stratches on the frame but you wouldnt notice unless up close and looking for them (no stratches or marks on lenses)
my point of this little story is that for the past 2-3years these have been my throw around pair metal gigs, festivals, theme parks, mosh pits, beach, pool, superheated from being in the car all day, even stepped on... and they are as in good condition as when i bought them

PROS:
these glasses are the ones to get, temple shocks, light, strong, clear/high clarity

CONS:
virtually non-existent + d/c

Ultra light frames. A little small on the orbitals than the Juliet, but very similar design. It took me some time to finally purchase these, but now that I have them, I'm happy to have them. The Ti Copper is not copper at all...but greyish. Who knew?

These were my first magnesium Oakley shades...I loved these. I wore them everywhere. The fit is very comfortable and the hinges were not a problem for me. The only downside is that the painting came off big time on these shades. I no longer wear them, but they have a big place in my hall of fame.
TDM -
Frame: Pearl

Extremely well crafted but you just get the impression that the magnesium works better as a gimmick than a frame material, I find very little difference between wearing a switch and one of my x-metals, that said the spring hinge ensures it remains very comfortable, its just a shame that it suffers from paintwork problems and the inability to switch out lenses

A really cool shade definitely. The flex coupler is pretty cool in my opinion. All my friends say they look like a thick Juliet, I think it's a good comparison however these are definately no Juliets. The paint certainly wears off and the worst part is since the lenses are built into the frames, one scratch and they're done. Still cool, none the less.

On the whole, these are very comfortable to wear. I would like to see a little bit more tension in the arms however. The main problem I've had with these is the black finish rubbing off. The nosepiece area and inside of the arms (where the top of the arm hits the other when folded) have noticeable wear now.

Aside from that small cosmetic problem, they fit very well, stay in place relatively well, look properly "Oakley" and are much lighter than the rest of the metal-framed models.

Love that it's so incredibly light. It's a fairly large one, but you don't feel that. The combination of Pearl and the Fire lenses is just great. They attract a lot of attention!

I'm giving these a 3. I've never owned any of Oakley's magnesium frames and I would probably keep them around to stay on display as much as I would a Medusa. I've heard many horror stories about the ceramic disintegrating to pieces by many wearers.

These would have gotten many high points with me if 1) They were not spring hinged, 2) The corrosion/breaking problem were not an issue, 3) The temples were designed a little more tightly such that they didn't always hit the lens orbital bottoms. I know this is a problem with the Juliet and some Romeos as well, but at least with those you didn't feel that they might "leak out" on you or something.

The Mags are great and are VERY OAKLEY. It's the spirit of Oakley. Where most companies make their glasses out of steel or plastic, how many people out there can boast,"These things are made of magnesium. Cool, eh?"

Bar none the most comfortable sunglasses I've ever worn, and a great style as well. Unfortunately getting a pair that paint doesn't wear off of is a crap shoot. Another downfall is the lack of polarized lenses. They do look and feel great though.

The only Oakleys that have followed me all over the place when on hollidays. It's comfortable to wear, both on my nose and on top of my head. The colorway is flashy in a way, but if you don't mind getting the attention ("where did you get those killer shades, dude!?!") it's a great combo.
It is difficult to keep the pearlwhite color, as it easily smudges. The fire lens is one of the most comfortable Oakley ever made.

I'm still amazed at the weight of these things. Everytime I pick them up, I still think they should be at least a little heavier. Even though the frame is called Titanium, I feel it looks more like X-Metal when compared. They have a unique look to them, and one that I'm afraid I can't pull off completely. I find there's too much frame below the earstems as opposed to being evenly distributed about the frame(not sure if this makes any sense to any one). I'm still going to wear them, but I got them more for the historical fact.

I actually rate these a 4.2, but since I cant really do that, I rounded down. The Mag Switch has a very cool looking Frame, kind of like a fat Juliet. Pear/Fire is IMO the best frame/lens Combo for the Switch, but that is because I am bias in Fire Iridium's favor. The frame is very lite despite the thickness of the arms and orbital, and the two black circles on the nose piece that hold the flex couplers in place really stand out and add to the beauty of the whole ensemble. However, despite the Switch’s beauty, it does have a couple of flaws. First, the frame does discolor due to corrosion from sweat, and second, I cannot seem to find away to change the lenses. So overall, the Switch is a very cool looking pair of Oakleys, defiantly a compliment to anyone’s collection.

I just got a pair recently of eBay and they had the same problems of discoloration and flaking off especailly where the earstem hits the orbital. I sent them in to Oakley and just got them back. They look a lot better, although the color is a little uneven. In spite of all this I really dig these. They're suprisingly light, really comfortable, and just as important, they look cool. I will wear them sparingly though, to avoid more problems, so unless that happens, I'll give them a 4.

i first ran across these while i researched oakley pennies... i was conflicted between these ( beacause they were cheaper) and penny ruby (but they were too pricey). i really wanted penny ruby, but didnt feel like forking out the $400.00 pricetag... so i decided to pay a litle than half the price for the mag switches
wow. these are some of the most stunningly awesome-looking specs ive ever seen...the photos on the auction page didnt do them justice... i also own a pair of square wire 2.0s and i never wear them anymore after getting these. AND theyre discontinued and are becoming even more rare? i just had to pick these up. i just got them sunday and i couldnt be more pleased. i havent had them for too long, so i hope the ceramic doesnt wear off like everyone says it does. for me, the first time i put them on they felt just fine. they werent too thick like everyone says they are, and they dont get in my peripherel vision like some people say. the three-point fit and the spring hinges are a plus as well- so very little of the actual frame makes contact with my face. im pretty sure i got a gen2 as the fangs dont rub on the frame and there appears to be a ruber piece in place of the hinge. overall, a solid pair of shades in my point of view.

Finally have a pair of my own, since the Ice were my brother's. I have a Gen2, so the stems don't rub on the orbitals. The coating seems more solid too. Overall, a very nice pair, but one I'm afraid to wear due to the spotty (literally) history.

I was underwhelmed by the other color options, but this one "popped" off the shelf when I first saw it. I am a huge fan of the fire lenses and they just look awesome contrasted against the bright white frame. Surprisingly, the Magnesium line never took off. These are a striking pair of sunnies. They are a definite collector's item in my mind, especially since they are plagued with longevity issues. I had the frame replaced recently due to the infamous yellowish discoloration. If it wasn't for this, I'd give them full marks.

Frame: Ti Copper

Finally got to try one these puppies on and I was underwhelmed. The lenses looked small initially but everything fit fine once I tried them on. Fairly lightweight considering the relatively thick frame and the Unobtanium on the earstems look like they'd keep them on your head even while running. They fit a little close to my face but with bigger nosebombs, they'd be better. Still, they seem like an almost obselete niche product considering how popular the X-metals are.

very unique design. lens transmission is just right, not too dark, not too light. frame is very light in proportion to its thickness. i just hope it doesn't fade as others say it does. i don't use it when i know i'll be prespiring. a little bit too pricey for the looks but i hope its worth my investment.

I got these sunglasses because they seemed like a cool alternative to the X-Metal line. To me they have hints of X-Metal styling without looking like a direct descendant of the family. The light weight and spring hinges are definitely a plus. I realize there are a few issues with the frames wear and so forth, but to me the design is still a great one!
Dann -
Frame: Ti

The Mag Switch's feel a little odd at first. They are very light given that they are made of metal and are much thicker than the X-Metals. The thickness can also be felt as you put them on, the armbands are rounder than most plastics. That aside, they are very nice. I wear the Ice model from time to time, and you can't beat that lens. The frame tends to get in your peripheral vision at times, but isn't too bad.

Update: I wore these while I mowed the lawn one day and the sweat has started to corrode the frame. The ceramic is crumbling making a mess of everything. I have to move these from a 5 to a 3 now.

AWESOME sunglasses from a design point of view, but there have been a lot of complaints about durability, so have really been pushed aside as a fashion item.
I have these just to collect, so have only worn them to try on.
Still an excellent fit, although the weight just makes them feel well built in my opinion.
Excellent vision, although these are not interchangable lenses, as they are bonded to the frame.
These will be a collector classic.

I'm a big fan of the Mag frames. I think the material, texture, and feel are very cool. The fit and weight of the Switch are sweet, and the spring hinges are a big plus. I like the frame styling/molding around the lenses. My only complaint seems to be a familiar one: after some time the Mag appears to have some residue/corrosion problems. I had the same problem with my 24k XX X-Metal and Oakley took good care of the issue, so I'm not too concerned.

I suggest you go with either the Mag Four or Mag Four S if you want the cool magnesium frame but without the Weight and Bulkyness of the mag Switch.

Great design and was lighter than they looked before I bought these however wasn't impressed with the durability, edges have started to lose paint considerably at the ends of the earstems and sweat seems to slightly stain the frame over time.

I've had these for a year, but will probably opt for X-Metal as my next pair. Not very impressed with the magnesium frame but gets a 4 for the design.

This is my 3rd pair (after warranty claims) and the paint work is still not getting any better.
Now I can see spots of the base magnesium colour.
The end of my right inner side of the ear stem is almost gray.
I told a O-rep bout the prob... he said that's what's happening to the body of airplanes... as it's using the same material for Magnesium frames.

But it's cool though.
Especially when u seldom see Mag frames over here in my country... even if u do, they're not as badass as Pearl Fire.

I walked into the Miami O-Store wearing these and the guy behind the counter looked shocked. Seems that the plasma/white ceramic wasn't very popular. Since they've been discontinued, they've become even more rare. But I've got a thing for white frames. These are great glasses for hanging out. For me, a little heavy (read: expensive) for playing sports, but that's me. Mine have stretched out a little in the middle, giving them a weird look from the front. $20 + shipping to Oakley will have them wrapping around my face properly. From what I hear, this is standard stuff for frames with the flex coupler. Other than that, the spring hinges are solid, plus they feel great when you wear them in the sun; the ceramic tends to stay cool after sitting indoors for a while. Maybe I'll try to procure some Ice Polarized lenses for these...

It feels weird wearing it the first couple of weeks...
I mean... it feels like ceramic... It's thick yet light weight. I've no idea how durable the frame is, since I've never dropped it or deliberately bashed it with a hammer.
Initially I got an older version which the ear stem/fangs would scrape off the paintwork when folded... as said by kingphilbert.
I brought it back to the shop and they changed me a brand new pair with added rubber thing in the hinge... fixed the prob. Fantastic.
Spring hinge is cool... but I don't know how the flex coupler works for this model.

The only problem now is the paintwork. I don't know if I sweat acid or something... I get dark grey dots and patches in the inner part of the frame (very obvious when it's Pearl frame). Not a pretty sight.

kingphilbert -

I still question why these were first named Mag Ti Copper for being a grey frame? Magnesium makes for a lite frame, but the Porcelain rubs off where the fangs scrape the inner orbital frame when closed. Spring hinges were a plus for fit. The arms were rounded more so and stiff. A comfortable fit due to it's weight but you still knew it was there.

I had them. The coating is cheap as f***, the grey rubber goes off very fast. They aren't that light, when you hear "magnesium" you think they might be very very light, but they aren't. + they overpriced.

From me a definately NO NO NO !

BTW: The design is nice. Ok. But who cares when the material is rubbish?
