i am about to venture into buying my step son his first pair of oakleys.......he has just turned 7 last week and wants to be cool.....well as he says 'sub zero' like his step dad ;)......and he wants his first pair.

ive looked around and ive seen some fives xs in polished black/blue iridium-but im not sure if these will be too big for him.

i prefer the half pint as they come with the integrated strap and look a little more slick/classy, but these seem to be as rare as hens teeth.

finally, there is the halo-but if im correct a bit bigger and more female orientated, so....

anyone got opinions for what may be best or other suggestions?

Halo aka Haylon is indeed for women. Halfpint are quite small. I too have a seven year old and he actually fits Five 2.0's and Splices fairly well, so I'd say go with XS Fives. My son used to have the Black/Blue Ir pair, but his mom lost them. They're really nice glasses though. I'd say your step son would love them!

+1 on the Fives XS. I think that is going to be your best bet and best fit. I have 2 Halfpints and 2 Fives XS for my 5 year old ... and he usually prefers the Fives XS over the Halfpints.

Trying to think of other small-sized options, maybe check out a Minute??

My 3 year old wears the XS Fives as well and has been since he was 2. he has a pair of half pints that he wore since he was born until he turned 2 and then they just looked too small on him. Got a second boy on the way so at least he gets them handed down. Go with the XS Fives, cooler looking and easier to find.

If only all parents were responsible like you guys. Kids need good quality sunglasses to protect from the elements. Most sun damage occurs before the age of 18! I'm still waiting for the Gascan XS.

I haven't been able to get my hands on a pair of half pints, but my 3 year old rocks the XS five pretty well only slightly too big they fit my 5 year old son but I only have one pair so my 5 year old is wearing the minute.

My 7 year old has XS Fives (which he barely wears anymore) and XLJ Half Jackets. I bent the arms on the half jackets for a better fit. He wears them for baseball and soccer and has never had an issue with them being too big. If your son's head is on the smaller size, definitely the xs Fives.

well, we are going to go for the fives xs and his favourites are the polished black/blue iridium.

now to find a pair without breaking the bank.

he did find some NIB moons from huneymonkey, the set of all three, which i endorsed fully, but the wife to be promptly reminded me about the pending wedding.......rrrrrrr.

Paul, from what I've heard, the Moons, though suitable for smaller faces, are highly fragile, so might not last long with kids. The lone Moon in my collection is safely locked away in my display cabinet.

Have two pair of the XS Fives for my two year old, one pair for each car. Got one direct from Oakley and another on a deal site my wife found, the later was a MPH pair with grey lenses.
