I hope these things move fast so as to encourage DITA to re-release the silver frame, but something tells me it won’t because it doesn’t have the Avengers/Spidey connection.

As I was telling Bobby, the lenses only take a few days to make. It’s the frames that’s the bottleneck; it takes 4 months to get the frames manufactured. They’re short on supply, so I don’t think DITA even knows when/if they can offer the silver frame again for specifically 7806-AVG. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed for you, brother. What about the manufacturing of the frames takes so long? I guess it’s a good indication of quality at least. I understand Ti is probably more difficult to work with.

DITA isn’t an integrated manufacturer like Oakley or Lux, so there is some lag time between the decision to manufacturer and the actual manufacturing activities. They design their own frames but they contract one of the oldest Japanese eyewear manufacturers to do the work for them. This middle-man arrangement adds some time.

Another thing is this Japanese manufacturer uses old world eyewear craftsmanship, so that methodology adds an assload of time. Lots of hand craftsmanship rather than just machine work, lots of hand detailing and quality assurance goes into a frame, which is why they’re known for their quality. High quality materials as well.

I guess DITA is so back-ordered for the silver/smoke grey frame that they put the Tony Stark custom blue lenses in another frame colour instead:

Not bad but I still like that other color combo better.

Good info. Thanks. Glad to hear they are not mass produced and lots of detail goes into making them a quality pair. Had never really heard of Dita before Robert Downey Jr wore them for the movie. The follow up in Spider Man really got their name out there.

Yeah, they are a very small company. I think they only do something like $60M in annual sales. The brand started taking off when major celebrities started wearing their stuff, as most eyewear brands tend to do, but the last 7 or so years has their design work really standing out from the pack; lots of intricate detailing and parts. Their approach is California cool casual styling so they will always use the classic silhouettes (aviators, navigators, shields, etc.), but add modern twists to it. Their higher end stuff is where the action is: Mach 6, Rikton and Grandmaster series are amazing in person.

They have become a prestigious brand so there a lot of fakes out there. I see people paying big bucks on eBay for stuff like their Midnight Special glasses (which is probably the most faked pair), so be careful to all buying on the secondary market.

Lol. When u put it that way, it sounds bad. I’m truly a fan of the MCU with Iron Man being my favorite Avenger. I was excited to be able to get this pair as I may go as Tony Stark for Halloween with my boys this year. I’ll keep an eye out for them should they become available again. I’ll grab them for u.

Ha! I don’t think it sounds bad. In fact, you got stuff we’d all be proud to have.

I’ve got big love for MCU as well.

I’ve never been a fan of Garrett Leight, but the lenses on this Kith collab is at least interesting:

Thanks! DITA has released the replacement lenses by itself, presumably because they can’t manufacture the frames fast enough but still wanted to satisfy demand somehow. I bought a set from a Toronto dealer and put it in my 7806-A SKU frame.

I was in Vegas this past weekend. One of the Casinos has a sunglass shoppe with DITA. They had flight 06, but no blue lenses.
