Maybe those who wear the shield sport models as lifestyle pairs, replacing the types who wore white gascans. I'd chalk it up to another stereotype with little basis in real life.

At least where I live, the stereotype still exists, though I think it has decrease over the years as Oakley became more mainstream; there is association with rednecks, frat boys and those who have no style.
