Will be horrible for consumers, but I marvel at the great business sense this deal seemingly has to offer.

Interesting tidbits about the deal:

https://www.essilor.com/en/medias/press-releases/essilor-delfin-create-global-integrated-player-eyewear-industry-combination-essilor-luxottica/

-Essilor would become a holding company with the new name “EssilorLuxottica” via a hive-down of all of its operating activities into a wholly-owned Company, to be called Essilor International, and the contribution by Delfin of its Luxottica shares.
-Luxottica’s Executive Chairman, Leonardo Del Vecchio, would serve as Executive Chairman and CEO of EssilorLuxottica. Essilor Chairman and CEO, Hubert Sagnières, would serve as Executive Vice-Chairman and Deputy CEO of EssilorLuxottica with equal powers as the Chairman and CEO.
-The EssilorLuxottica Board of Directors would consist of sixteen members: 8 nominations from Delfin (Lux) and 8 from Essilor

The question is: can it be worse for Oakley than the actual situation?

I suppose it will get worse, especially for the employees. Oakley just went through it's optimization the last couple years to align with Lux. Chances are they will have to do it all over again to align with Essilor ownership. Though hopefully the transition won't be too rough this time due to their businesses being mostly complimentary in nature.

And dashed are my hopes of a Fender-style employee buyout, as much of the structure needed to support such a move is slowly being dismantled.
