Last year my 65 years old father, had an eye operation.
A little band, that keeps the eye on his place suddenly snapped. The doctors had to replace this band for a silicon one. To protect his eyes for further inguries, i want to buy him an Oakley. What do you guys recommend for lenses? What would be the best model for a 65 years old man.
I was thinking about a big square wire with VR50 lenses

Jan the Big Square Wire sounds like an excellent idea, esp. with those lenses.

I agree with the Big Square Wire. They would probably look the best and have a lot of function for him. Hope all is well.

I would also agree with the Big Square Wire, unless he dosnt have that large of a face, because the Big Square Wire is massive. Also, alot of people who have tried on a pair of my Oakleys with spring hinges say they dont like spring hinges due to the loose fit around the face, so that wold be something to check out with him too. As far as lens color is concerned, VR50 is a beutiful lens, don't get me wrong, its just that most older people don't like others to be able to see their eyes through the lenses, I would stick to a dark polarized lens like Black Iridium polarized. Whatever you decide, if it is Oakley then it is a good choice and he will love it.

seems to be a lot of variation in suggestions.

Half jackets aren't bad and suit most ages.

i'd suggest half jacket or a pair of M frame too. with so many interchangeable lenses to choose from, it's gonna be very practical in case a clear lens is needed.

I agree with the half Jacket idea, they fit almost everyones face: XLJ lens for larger faces or standard lenses for small to average size faces. And as someone mentioned before, the lenses are easily interchangable. Can't go wrong with the half jacket

Jan - are they for protection from objects or from light? I assumed both and was just thinking that clear (or tinted, for that matter) HJs or M Frames or similar will look a bit silly at the dinner table.

Also, 'protection' from light is not strictly correlated with transmission %. All plutonite blocks all harmful light.

The Big Square Wire would be best for 'older faces' I think. Concerning his age I would even consider persimmon or hi yellow lenses due to the effect the color has on his retina.

I would say go Big Sq wire. Dark w/ Black Polar. It is a more traditional look and tends to be popular with older adult males.
