ok, now how is it selling?

Also, if Oakley doesnt try to make watches, they'll never know how good they could make them. Oakley started out making grips, now theyre a sunglasses powerhouse. Who knows, maybe Oakley will work its way up to become an excellent watch company.

As far as im concerned they already are a good watch company. Most of there watches are surgical grade stainless steel, titanium and have sapphire crystal with swiss or japan movement. You cant get any better than that.

For the trivia lovers.....apparently the movement in the Time Tank is made by RONDA.

Ronda movements are often found in Swiss Army watches along with rado movements. I think I even cracked open a Tissot once to find one with great supprize.

so what you're saying is Oakley's $1200 premium watch uses the same internals as Wenger watches that cost less than 1/4 the price?

like this one:

Honestly, I wouldn't know the difference if it were pigmy hamsters running the watch in there. The TT would still be a great watch in my eyes.

it looks alright, but for that kind of money, I expect a little more quality than I do from watches that go for around $100 on ebay.

Anybody remember those Ferrari-clone Fieros that were popular in the 80's. It's like that. Kinda nice to look at, but pedestrian underneath. For a company that claims to be so forward thinking and innovative, this news is really crushing to me.

That's a good idea! I'm going to start mailing away for catalogues using different names & addresses to stay off their radar. A little OT but do any of you remember when Oakley.com allowed you to list your purchases on their website for no apparent reason?

in reply to Tick's OT post:
wasn't it so the common folk could remember what model sunglasses they'd bought for warranty issues?

Yeah except once you put in the eyewear information you couldn't access it to see what was there.

Yeah EC, that's the part I didn't get. In fact, after I listed my first 5 or 6 pairs I had a warranty issue & I asked the CS guy if he could see my list & he said no. So I thought if you can't see it & I can't see it, what's the point?

Cool mailer, Phil. I think I signed my wife up, so maybe she'll get one.

Tick - yeah I vaguely remember doing that and thinking the same thing... what was the point?

I also remember when there was actually a collectors section and listed approx. values (I think) based on your serial number? Does this ring a bell with anybody?

I actually got that TT piece on Thursday or Friday. I was pretty jazzed to see that something came from Oakley. It was almost like Christmas!

Steve, you mean a dollar amount correlated to a serial number? I really don't think Oakley's ever had anything like that, and I don't know how they would even assess 'value' to begin with.

OK, I know I'm not crazy (maybe). Anybody have the link to the web site that archived the old O websites?

I tried on a Time Tank yesterday and was very underwhelmed. I think part of it may have been knowing about the internals, but I also kind of expected it to be deceptively light for its size, like the Magnesium line. But it isn't what I would ever dream of calling a light watch. Maybe the leather banded version, but not with a bracelet.
