hey , thx a lot to you mate I finaly succeded at doin a few custom cut . btw may I ask why you cut the tape ? I tried without cutting it and I dont see any diffrence , also in your guide it is unclear if you do tape both side of the lens...
one of my favorites believe it or not comes from the 1$ store lol ( looks like Blue Iridium except its mostly green in the middle and lots of Purple at the end, I bought several cheap sunglasses to practice before doing the real thing on my Hi persimon Strike Lens , Well believe it or not I skipped 3 times on my first lens , and there is a few scuff on that lens, ( it went thru the tape) I guess I was a bit too excited to finaly cut some real Oakley lenses.
the second one is perfect ..

I did engrave 'custom ' on both 1$ lens and tho I am not good at this the tool was workin real great.
Also I used a 'unknown' 'abrasive' to polish the edge and they look very good with it , I will grab the one in the guide and see witch one does a better job but you might wanna take a look at usin this one cuz it did the trick for me .

anyways here are my picks

Nice work. Did you use the burr bit for your "etching"? I have a much different method, but have used those in the past on mirrors and things. To answer the question about the tape, it is there for safety. If you slip, you scratch tape and not a $75 lens, so you can afford to be safe with the investment of cheap tape. Also, it gives you a more clear view of your cut line while doing it. Some Iridium coatings are difficult to see the sharpie marks on, so it just helps. Trust me, I have scratched a few lenses in the beginning and this just saved me much $$

Check out these edges...All polished up and looking for a date HAHA. Everything I do is based 100% on the article I wrote, so all can achieve the same reults, it just takes patience.

thx both of ya , ya I used the tool in the picture for the etching , but I never been goood at doing fonts so it is not for me , but anyone with good drawing skills could do amazing job with it ..

I tried to go from juliet Hi I persimon to Penny , but I ended up too short on the side , I guess I finaly learned my lesson .. The thing is it takes em around 10 minutes to complete the lense but it takes about 20 minutes to make the fine tune adjustement , this is the part that should not be rushed .. I am proud of my first Juliet + red they are flawless this time I did put 3 rows of tape to make sure if I skipped it wouldnt go right tru ( saved me a lens ) and Since I did tape both side , I was lucky to be saved by the tape inside as well , hahaha , I can laugh , these are definitly worth what they cost me , bought them straight from OAkley , and paid CAD 115 , will get my next + red on eBay tho specialy with Canadain Dollars these days its worth it . thx again to both of ya .

Btw + red is my favorite too .

nice bro...that tape is just cheap insurance. You can drop them and not knick them, you can slip a but and not go through, and you can see the lines so much easier. The pos red is just plain awesome! More consistant than any ruby, nicer colors, and works in all sorts of frame colors. Glad you too are a believer in + Red! HAHA Hey, just had an idea, Dann & Phil, how about a positive red Fatcat or similar?

Has anyone cut new lenses for original A Wires? I got a pair CHEAP off E-bay, but the lenses aren't as great as I would like. I would kill to cut a good set...or have someone cut them for me.

What's a good lens to chop down to fit the A wires? I'm almost up for trying myself...but maybe not!

So, out of curiosity, how many lenses can I pull from this?

And...does this work?

They might be too thick. Not sure it would work or be cost effective.

The shields are pretty thick. I think you would have a hard time getting any thing cut from them into the frame. Not to mention the optics would be way off.

bad idea on the shield and that visor looks nothing like that in person, there is no mirror effect at all as it is looks like a 20% grey with a little blue casting to it. From a visual for looking out of it, it casts out like a ruby blue base.

ah yes, but it can be cut. Waste of a lot of real estate though. Just took out my calipers and measured the options. Middl of a shield (clear) is 3.44mm at the bottom no tab. The outside edge measures 2.15mm. My Monster Pup cut from a Riddle which is the thickest lens I have used is 2.04mm at the thickest inside edge. Yes, you can easily cut them since removing .10mm is easy, but you loose a crap load of lens in waste from the center. Not to mention the bend of the shield is much greater and would cause anything to look like bug eyes if you attempt to use the center at almost any point.

Josh is the GODFATHER and is the man to listen to for sure, the only thing that sucks with the shields is the color selection, really everything that is produced can be done from a regular lens and be done easier. If the iridiums were sold to the public that would be another option to consider. Send it to Dr. Chop, if anyone can do it, he is your man!

Much appreciated. I just like to set the masses straight and save someone a chunk of change when it isn't a great idea. I would suggest a goggle lens of some sort. Generally, you still only get one set due to the foam and adhesive from the anti fog inside clear lens, but there really is no point to try and squeeze a bunch out of one lens unless they are shelf queens. Feel free to inquire anytime and I will try my best to get the answers you seek.

Now I'm seeing that I can get some iridium goggle lenses...replacements...for like $30. I may have to send some things your way.

you gotta see a lot of that stuff in person too, the black iridium on a MX goggle lens is not the black iridium that you are probably accustomed to. It is on a VR28 base(i think) totally different look than the standard lens. Here is the latest cut from myself, sheckler twitch with fire!
