I only remember the Amalgram event, but there was one with Batman/Superman.

Since I'm on inter-company crossovers, it just dawned on me that the DC vs. Marvel/Marvel vs. DC crossover turned 20 years old this year. While I don't see it talked about too much these days, it was a monumental event back in 1996 (which eventually led to the epic JLA/Avengers x-over many years later), despite the controversy of letting the fans vote on some of the fights. I wish companies could still pull stuff off like this these days.

That article is a good refresher. Some of the results and match-ups were interesting. Any idea how they picked who was going to battle who? Was that fan vote too or just the results?

Not sure how editorial within each company decided on who fought whom for any of the fights (but they do mostly seem logical pairings in terms of fanbase), but the ones the fans got to vote on are:
-Batman/Captain America
-Wolverine/Lobo
-Storm/Wonder Woman
-Superman Hulk
-Spider-man/Superboy

The rest of the fights' outcomes where determined by creative (Green Lantern/Silver Surfer, Flash/Quicksilver, Aquaman/Namor, Catwomen/Elektra, etc.)

If tracking is to be believed, I will be getting this in the mail tonight. Oh the ridiculousness of it all:

Well, nostalgia strikes again:

http://www.cbr.com/all-time-greatest-comic-book-gimmick-covers/

Once I’m bored with grabbing as many inter-company x-over books as I can, I’ll move onto getting the gimmick covers of the ‘90s that I missed out on. IMO, Silver Surfer #50 was by far the best gimmick cover ever made.

Since that was my era, a large portion of my collection is gimmicky. I know it's hated, but #1 issue aside, it made following the story arcs easier since I could visually spot all the Fatal Attractions issues, or the Phalanx Covenant.

I think I have all of those gimmick cover, plus the newsstand copies that didn't glow in the dark.

I don't know if I should be proud or ashamed. lol

I actually would buy the newstand editions since they almost seemed like the special editions.

Variant covers are the shame of the current era. Gimmick covers aren't so bad anymore, though I wouldn't want them to come back in any big way.

I thought the Ultraverse's full size hologram covers would've made the Top 10. If they had a "Worst" list, Eclipso: The Darkness Within #1 would've taken the top spot. A big gem on the cover sounds like a good idea until you find out it destroys any other book it comes in contact with.

The key question is, Who remembers the Amalgam Universe that followed the crossover? Anybody want to see more of Dark Claw and Super Soldier? How about the JLX?

Funny you should mention that. I pulled the Legends of the Darkclaw and JLX issues from the collection not too long ago. I would love to see all of them again. Some really cool mashups like Lobo the Duck.

I found some of the Chrome Trading cards too. Never got the comics, but I did pick up Darkclaw #1 in recent tears since it was in the 50 cent bin.

Finally completed the "Marvel Legends" Cap shield set:

Standard version (heavy duty plastic) on the left and 75th anniversary version (all metal) on the right. If anyone is considering one, spring for the 75th anniversary version. It's more expensive ($300 vs. $100), but it's worth it.

Awesome. I looked on my wholesaler site and saw it for $238, but special order. From experience this means they will try and get one from the manufacturer, but I've yet to have that ever happen.

Very cool. Even before reading your description, I was already saying "I like the one on the right." It's good to know I have such discerning taste.
