I agree 100% that the new x metals should be "new". New designs to go with the new technology. The x squared was very cool but I do not love the fit. Nothing against the pair, they just are not prefect for my face. They were still great glasses though and if they continue to follow that path I think the new pairs will be great. That being said if they did a limited re-run of the older frames, pehaps in a unique collorway that was not made before or something of that nature that would be awesome! I would grab one of each and I am sure I am not alone in that.

i wounder how much a x-metal over the top would be price and weight would be really really hard to make.... was the ninja over the top metal or o matter or what ?
Judging by the amount of flex when it was taken off, it's O Matter. Come to think of it, a fully metal OTT wouldn't work because of the lack of flex. They'd probably have to make plates bolted onto a beta titanium or unobtainium spine (like the TBII or C6).

I always thought a wire version would work well. Would have enough flex, but still lightweight.

C5 bends too easily though, I don't think it would keep its original shape

Titanium or the Nanowire material maybe.

Screw it, just make the thing out of tungsten carbide, one of the heaviest and most indestructible alloys out there and use hydraulics for frame flexion. neck brace and aspirin sold separately.

I could totally see an OTT II, metal (or even CNC machined CF) attached to Beta Ti skeletal structures...theoretically, it'd be feasible...

A tungsten carbide OTT would be a cool sculpture/display item. I'd buy that.

That would cost a fortune and weigh a ton. I would totally want one. I wouldn't mind a complete carbon fiber OTT either.

Even an aluminum or aluminium as the brits would say would make a nice light weight strong OTT.

Yes carbon fiber ! That could be done totaly I mean the mold wouldn't be hard u could make it just like a snow board in a press or maybe even vacume bag it no no mold would be made in 3 parts cutting the carbin fiber would be just right and keeping it straight would be the hardest part i mean every unit that came out of the mold would need to be worked but u could put it in a 3D CNC and cut it to spec it would be super strong and super light OMG yes please yes I'd work for free for Oakley just to make that sign me up

I am with Oak on keeping the expectations low. Unless Jim J. applies his vision, designs, thinking and approval, it just wouldn't be the same.

I was just on the phone with Oakley the other day to get my X-metal XX tuned up because the coupler is loose. They said they had completely shut down their X-metal factory that they made the glasses in. I told her that's too bad that they should have made like a throw back edition. All they would of had to do to fix the issue with the coupler is to thread it on the back side and use screws (small torques head like for the lenses) so that it was easy to take apart to put new rubber in. They did mention that they were trying to come up with a new X-metal for 2013.
