Am I the only one thinking that in the good old days Oakley would be all over this idea?

Way back in the Thump 1 era, they were intending on making a HUD style pair, that would be a video player in the same vein as Thump was a music player. You'd be able to watch a mobile-sized movie on a plane or something. Guess it didn't pan out.

The race will be a tight one, since everyone's got something on the way with HUD glasses. Google's leading the way; Sony's got something in the works; Panasonic as well; Instagram has their photo glasses, etc.

I saw the video they released of the glass' performance, and it's pretty slick. I'm looking forward to trying them on when they become widely available and put out for demo, but they're asking for $1500 for the Explorer Edition, which gets a big "LOL" from me.

Yeah, it's a high price. But they're not fools. I'm sure they'll fill their quota for the beta with enough people willing to pay for them.

GlassUp's another entry in the HUD glasses space (yes, everyone and their mamma's have something coming out):

The key advantage is it projects near the centre of vision, so it's suppose to be closer to what we know as HUD.

Jim was ask about his opionion about the Google Glasses, he praised Google as a whole... good search engine and map service but Jim will leave it up to the consumers and has no opinion about it.

If this is the secondary price of Google glass, I would hate to see how much the Oakley collab will be:

Apparently the actual cost of the components for Google Glass is about $200 and the price is currently being kept high so that only people who are very interested in wearable tech and thus won't negatively review Glass because they don't understand it and/or can't use it and/or don't get that it's a work in progress. I'd be thinking the full release version of glass would be more like $299, so maybe $400 up for an Oakley take on it.

The rumours right now put the mass market release at $600.
