i think we all agree it would be unfair to compare Oakley with Omega, Seiko, Panerai, etc... they're not competing for the same market share to begin with. like EC said, a person who's interested in a Time Tank would most likely not be interested in all those other high-end watches.

I'm not quite sure. I mean looking at the athletes Oakley sponsors and promotes on their website vs. the athletes companies like Omega and Tag sponsor and promote and their website (eg. Olympians, race car drivers, golf, etc.), first preception is that they do go after the same (or at the very least very similar) market.

ahh, you're right about the sponsorships and company image. however, i was more into the price standpoint. at $1195 the Time Tank is still a lot more accessible than TAGs or Omega.

I agree. Until I saw the first Oakley watches, I wasn't really interested in any brand. None were really appealing and they all seemed to have the same look. Then I saw the Crush, Time Bomb, Bullet, etc. and I was blown away by the originality of the designs. Nothing that I had ever come across before seemed to hold anything against these watches. They were no where near the price range or exclusivity of say Rolex or Omega, but that's not what I was after. That's why I think a lot of customers will buy this watch just because of the way it looks, whether they like Oakley or not. If you like Rolex or Omega or any other watch brand, that's fine. I own a Crush 2.0 and I wouldn't trade it for any Rolex or Omega in the world.

That's true, Bong. Well, whatever Oakley's goal is for the Tank, I wish them the best of luck. I'd love to see the Tank excel despite tough competition, even if only to give Oakley the opportunity to develop their watch division even further.

Our goal with the Time Tank was to get back to doing great work... not worry about any of the competition. It represents what is pure about Oakley. Interesting, innovative and something that no other company in the world would do. It joins my list of museum pieces for our brand. I wear it. I love it. It makes me proud to be a small part of the team that made it. Bad ass doesn't do it justice.

Awesome. That's pretty much what I was trying to say. Can't wait to try it on. Any idea how heavy it is in comparison to the other watches, Jim? I just love heavy watches.

I can't wait to see this in person. First person to see it needs to give an impression about how light weight it is. It looks like a Tank, but is that reflective of the weight? Is the leather band a regular band or a cuff? Etc. Etc.

bad ass is right...the photos do not do it justice. Once you see it you will have to have it.

I am a big watch fan i have a couple Tag's and Bretling's. My Bretling Super Avenger is my fav one as of now...BUT once I get my Time Tank the Bretling is going in the trash.

J, don't do that. I'll send you a pre-paid box and you can send it to me...
No use in trashing a watch that could pay for half of my tuition for next year.

OK great looking watch, love the titanium design, but, no disrespect to anyone, not for me Im afraid.

Im not a fan of these 'oversized', products, and looking at the earlier pictures we had of someone wearing one, it was absolutely massive.

Not going to be any good, or comfortable when cycling, running, climbing, snowboarding or kitesurfing....

Im sure they're in the pipeline but Ill sit tight and wait for the sports specific ones.....

James made some real valid points though, where abouts in London are you??

Oh man, you have a point there. I don't do sports, but the Time Bomb is cutting it close enough for my girly wrists and I doubt this would fit me better.

I really hope there are other smaller watches like this in the works though. I honestly never cared for watches before, but the O really brings out stand-out designs.

first ; i have never ever worn any watches to begin with , i even never ever wore the TIMEBOMB i have ( it went straight into my display ) , but eversince the GMT came out , i started wearing watches , so i cannot compare oakley watches to any other brand , but what oakley did so far was fine by me ! and now the TANK ; from the picture , i gotta say , i love the design , it looks awesome, and i really don't care what it weighs. So , this will be my 2nd watch that i am gonna wear on a regualr basis.

Jason , you said that all a watch does is tell time , and that the pricing seems high for just that , but what about cars ? they bring you from A to B , but can cost from next to nothing , to almost everything.

Bong ; you gotta save up for at least 2 of these , to do justice to your watch - collection

I find myself looking at it many, many times on a daily basis and even wondering what additional colorways will possibly be offered in the future. Because IMO this watch is going to be one of those where having just one won't do.

Is it standard for watches of this type to not work below freezing?

depends on what scale, zero centigrade is freezing, what's that in fahrenheit?

thanks for that dann, no sizes huh?

is it a lot bigger than the timebomb?

fp, you mean to say that you don't actually have something before it's released?

heheh

freezing is freezing: Dann's specs say the minimum operating temperature is Odegress C or 32 degrees F. it's the same.

But is this normal? seems that many people up north will want a watch that works when it's below freezing.

You can't even take food off the freezer wearing them *lol..

That just means that extended amounts of time in freezing temperatures could cause the watch to run less accurate (i.e. loose time, and we are probably talking seconds not minuets). It does not mean it will stop. Just like you don’t want to leave you sunglass sitting on the dash of your car all day when its 100 degrease out side, you don’t want to leave your watch in your glove box all night when its freezing.

And yes I think that is the standard operating temps for most watches except the few designed specifically for operating in extreme temperatures.

so basically this is my first post, and what a rad one to do. there's no getting around it, Oakley watches are a luxury, but not for the weak spirited. the quality is up there with the Omegas, but not any Omega wearer can pull off the Oakley Time Tank, or any other O time machine for that matter. wearing an Oakley timepiece not only takes class, but it takes balls. who has balls? i do!
