The original Xbox demo prototype from 2000 that was milled from a solid block of aluminum and cost $18k to make:

New Wave Toys is known for making miniature replicas of arcade games. Functional mini replicas that you can actually play. I’m humming and hawing about getting the SFII. It’s on pre-order for $99 for February and then it’ll go up $20 in March:

I took the plunge. There was another $10 off code over the weekend. At $90, I couldn’t say no. Here’s hoping they are on track for July 1st shipping.

The retro game re-releases are starting to get tedious, but the Capcom home system is doing something unique, though cumbersome. Wi-Fi enabled, you can presumably play against other opponents (or it may just keep worldwide scores):

There wasn’t a lot that captured my attention at this year’s E3 with Sony staying away, but there were a few interesting things:

Final Fantasy 7 Remake 1st Class Edition:

Gears 5 Collector’s Edition with drone:

Doom Eternal Collector’s Edition with helmet:

Death Stranding Collector’s Edition with a weird embryo statue:

Another interesting development for E3 is Arcade1Up’s release of 3/4 sized replicas of arcade games like the late ‘80s and ‘90s TMNT and Capcom’s X-men games. Arcade1Up has been around for a bit but the TMNT and X-men stuff has got me interested.

At 45”, it’s on the very short size, but you can get a riser for $50-60 to bring it to about 57” (traditionally arcade games are around 6 feet in height). Not sure if the value is there vs. Buying a vintage machine and cleaning it up yourself due to size difference, but it is a cool concept and has multiple games in 1 cabinet.

Just picked this up:

It's by the company that bought 3D Realms, but retained the name and continued to make sequels to the old 90's PC games, but with newer game engines. For this, they flipped it and made a new game with the old Duke 3D engine (with a few modernizations when needed so it's playable).

The TMNT and Marvel cabinets are now available for pre-order at GameStop in the US and EB Games in Canada. About $400 USD each. The company says the units should be shipping Oct/Nov.

I’ve pre-ordered mine, but being a non-US resident means I have to settle for the less cool version of the Marvel Super Heroes cabinet. The US has access to the Special Edition:

https://arcade1up.com/products/marvel-cabinet

The Special Edition includes the following:
- Light-up marquee (I think the regular edition is just a plastic board with printed graphics)
- Higher quality buttons/joystick since it uses Sanwa hardware
- Limited to 8,000 units (though that seems like an awfully high number for something like this; I don’t even think the regular version will sell 8,000 units)
- Yellow trim (vs. Blue on the regular edition)
- COA

You’d probably have to pay the shipping amount (GameStop I think covers shipping if you buy them he regular edition) but it’s worth it.

Those are so cool. I loved the X-Men one way back. I found one at a VR Expo in 1995 that didn't require quarters, so I was actually able to get somewhere in it.

How are these only $400? I guess I don’t know anything about full size arcade games anymore.
