I've come to the realization that over 2/3 of my "collection" is wires.
How did this happen?
One grab at a time, just like the rest of you.
I never intended for this to happen to me; I'm somewhat educated, mature, and established in the world.
But the monkey on my face won't go away, and I'm hooked bad.
I have a recurring nightmare that, when I die, my wife will sell all my wires for what I told her I paid for them...

It is odd how collections accumulate in an unexpected direction. I believe I have quite a bit too, but for me, I've somehow amassed a large number of Straight Jackets. Almost rivaling the model lineups that I've actively tried to collect.

What's that called, accidental collecting?? For me, it has been the Offshoot. I think I got it under control now, I was able to resist the urge to buy another one.

flyer, I'm into Wires too... I always bought what I liked, what was appealing to me, and what I would wear. I was hung up on the old wires for the longest time, then the Inmate was released. My Wire collection grew considerably... I refer to them as Aviators, but they are wires.

I'm fairly certain 1/3rd of my collection are Wires... same can be said for my wife.

Just remember, your collection is what makes you happy, not anyone else. You're the one that wears them daily, or stares at them nightly (if you have them in a case).

I've often told myself, the day I look at my collection and I don't smile, is the day I know I'm done and need to move on. 20years and that hasn't happened yet... but in all fairness, it took my 17yrs to realize I was a collector; not just a habitual Oakley consumer.

Side Note: I've already decided I want to be buried in my Juliet. The rest will be inherited by my oldest daughter's future husband; he better be an Oakley guy. And the Bunker Trophy is going to be hers to hold onto to remember how crazy I am/was.

My collection has gone mostly in the direction of X-Metals. I started out with Eye Jackets years ago. Didn't buy anything for a while, then bought a pair of Flaks. After that it was all downhill. Now most of my collection is focused on X-Metals until we see a revival of the Elite line, which I'm told is coming.

My problem is that I keep buying broken/trashed/worn out Oakleys... They are too cheap to resist! One good pair of straight jackets... vs three broken M frames?

A bargain is a bargain , very hard to see it go !!! Straight Jackets still around so not end of world , early M s getting harder and you can knock up a good pair out of the 3 . Dann and I favour super glue on repairs (sorry Dann) but don't tell anyone !!!!!
As for the wife well yes they are a shadow on the collecting front , my tower is locked and will make sure she don't get them in the will. I make a paper copy of every purchase and then the relevant O R page from the database. These files are obviously locked away as well !!!!
When I look at my wire shelves (prior to 2007) and the others, as they all fill up, there were a lot of wires issued , think of E Wire alone.

Oak hello my friend. Not really I like to keep a running (ruining) log for the future. I buy (or have to buy) most of my stuff off E bay so its just a press of the printer button to record the bargain (or crime!!) then its nice to keep a copy of the database to show and prove exactly what it is. I print the front of all model options then the page corresponding to what I bought. Oh and I also tick it off against the full database list I printed off when I started. When I have all the models I want to number them on the sheets in relation to where they are on the shelves (laid out in group/issue date ect) so everyone knows. Remember I only collect up to the end of 2006 and am aiming for one of each (except Zeros they have replaced XM as my weakness).

I've PDF'ed all my old receipts and have them saved to Dropbox. The receipts are filed in 2 directory locations... First location is for "Receipt History" and the second location is "Receipt Product" ...I can pull up any of my receipts from anywhere (assuming a data connection).

I wish I had your guys' motivation, and I wish I had it 15 years earlier. If I did, I would have a scan of the 1997/1998 SGH receipt from my first Romeo instead of a yellowed piece of paper with barely any ink marks on it.

I'm satisfied with the collection database that I can edit (pending that I keep up on it) but thank you Dann for that option. It is very nice to keep a working inventory of everything I have.

Well said. Without the collection database, I would have no idea what I had. I am still continuously trying to update the inventory list piece-by-piece and I am glad the DB provides an easy way to do so.

I still have the receipt for my Romeos, had to import them in new from an opticians in the USA (try doing that on dial up !!!)
Also have the import tax bill as well, all in the box, they weren't cheap and I was miffed about the tax ha , but boy there was nobody else with a pair and I wore them everywhere.
They were in Ibiza for 4 seasons, in and out of pools, out with me at night so I could wear them as the sun came up (those were the days ha).
They were with me when I went shooting and at practical shotgun, where they took a few pellets in the lenses.
I stood on them one night when drunk and hurt my foot.
Of course I still have them, the old lenses are a bit worn ha , they are in the box.
I have a selection of aftermarket lenses and some I H ones, custom cut by the man in Dubai but rarely wear them now, they have earned retirement to the tower .
Yes the collection database is excellent, I must update it, slowly !!!!

Yep, the receipt I have should be dated 1997 or 1998, but the ink has completely weathered away at this point.

Nice receipt scan. Such a walk down memory lane.
