I was thinking about how nice it would be to have a section on the site with all the Oakley related pictures and article, like the pumpkins, the 2 jets, the moto, promo material and all.

I know everyone is busy, so maybe a thread is a good thing until a Everything else section is made/updated.

As the site grows, those pics and articles will get lost in the ever growing site, we already lost a lot of pictures from the change of site, understandably enough, it was a huge pain in the butt to link everything to the new site.

Little article on the Oakley HQ from the designers:

http://www.azahner.com/projects/oakley.html

Great and long article on Oakley as a brand, a must read:

http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/reviews/oakley.shtml

The Plate explained in details:

http://oakley.jp/catalog/eyewear/plate/

Nice shot of the jet and other pics from jannard.com:

After looking at HQ through different eyes it looks more like a place of worship than a business & that's the way it should be.

Sux that those guys that designed HQ are here in KC - yet still hardly any O representation at all....

Cool stuff, although that bikesportmichigan.com article is riddled with inaccuracies.

What kind of inaccuracies, Neil? I'd like to send that article to a few people, and I don't want to look the fool by giving false info.

Here are a few:
-the third image on the page is captioned as an "X-metal M-frame", but looks an awful lot like a Mag M to me.. not that X-metal M-frames wouldn't be cool.
-Hydrophobic stuff doesn't become sticky when wet. It becomes extremely slippery. Hydrophilic stuff gets sticky when wet.

Okay, so it isn't riddled with inaccuracies, per se. Still, the whole thing reads as if it was written by Oakley PR people- partly because some of it was. It lifts whole sentences out of Oakley press releases and catalogues...

"The credible visibility of athletes like Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan, David Duval and many others have made the brand recognizable, but what consumers are learning is that these athletes use Oakley eyewear because it represents a performance advantage over other eyewear brands."
-lifted directly from an Oakley product knowledge manual

"X-Metals are the first 3-D sculpted metal frame sunglass."
-those exact words have appeared in several catalogs and training materials

Nothing wrong with that, I suppose, but I still don't like the article.

Little article on the partnership between Ducati and Oakley:

http://www.bikebiz.co.uk/daily-news/article.php?id=4075

The most interesting thing is that the deal is good until 2007.

Good too know for you guys who like models like the Gascan, Riddle, maybe a Romeo2 who knows ?

As long as they dont do a black gascan with a red icon, too many blacks already.

I like the grey they use with the red, very nice.

I wouldn't mind a Jet Black frame if it meant an Iridium lens, like the Ducati Monster Dog.

They should do the Ducati Gascan as a 5.56 FMJ frame with red icon.

Or a Crystal Red with Chrome Icon!

Just a thought...I wonder if Oakley has ever tried to Iridiun coat a frame? I know it would be useless but it might look cool.

It may scratch off too easily unless it was clear coated. Or it would probably end up like the Dragon Aroura frames or those odd multi color car paint jobs like Cfer did to some Shadow Heads.

I like the sound of crystal red and chrome! Crystal rocks, I keep taking my grape gascans off just to look through the frame in the sunlight, soooo nice!

Since I am about to go into my first custom job on the XX Metal model, I am kind of nervous !

But I dug out this article that was posted here a while back explaining in details how to swapp lenses on the Juliet, should be of interest for new members:

The article doesn't say anything we don't already know, but it's still an interesting read about Oakley's move into India :

While nothing most of use don't know already, here's just some reading for those interested in Oakley watches and its manufacturing/design process:

http://iwmagazine.com/2011/09/28/extreme-machines/

The real interesting thing is it states the movement in the first TB is an ETA autoquartz. I had always thought it was a Seiko movement.

They failed to mention Oakley lenses have XYZ optics (a tapered lens). I might be biast, but the other 2 models have the worst names i could even think of and they look terrible to me.

I'm not impressed with Smith or Tifosi. The pricing may be appealing but the aesthetics aren't. Plus the Smith and Tifosi brands may have similar functionality and changeability when it comes to the lenses but like Jordan said they aren't XYZ and the quality isn't the same.

Interesting article about a type of eye protection test where Oakley didn't fair too well:

http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/eye-protection-shooting-glasses-review/

the experiment methodology is not exactly critique-proof, but it is an interesting read with some good points.

Interesting that most if not all of the other brands were full frame and the Oakleys were half frame.

Bringing up a dead thread, but seems appropriate for the new GQ article on Oakley:

https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/oakley-sunglasses

While most of the older Oakley collectors are hating what’s being put out these days, it seems the current generation (and most of the world) believe Oakley’s still got it and is cool, even praising their recent collabs.
