Thanks to a day off work ill I am going to beat adam to announcing a new addition to the line up at rubensmenswear.

(unless I havent spotted his post earlier on)

http://www.rubensmenswear.com/pages/photographs/oakley/stretchline/montefrio/oakley%20stretchline%20montefrio%20black%20black.htm

I went looking after seeing the montefrio mentioned in the catalogue with "un-confirmed" sitting next to it.

I guess we can consider it confirmed but may I be the first to say

WTF

I hate to sound negative all the time but this just looks pants. I can hear the conversation at Foothill now.

- Designer runs into the room and says:

"hey guys, I know what we could do. Lets take Elvis' sunglasses and give them a contemporary twist and then plaster the stretchline logo on them to give them some O cred"

- His colleagues reply:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$KERCHING$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

- Designer:

Yeah, thats what I thought. But what can we call them.

- Colleagues:

Something that maintains Oakley's hard won image, yet exudes an air of european playboy and all round playful cad-about-town

- Designer:

Aha, I just watched Oceans 12 and have the perfect name. We will call them the Brad Clooney.

- Colleagues:

No no no, we need to appeal to the both male and female.

- Designer:

OK, what about Brad Zeta Jones

- Colleagues:

Your sacked, have your desk cleared out by noon. Now back to this name thing........

five hours later:

You know what guys, I think that design of this thing is testament to the fact that we dont really care what we are pushing on our customers half the time. Christ knows Jim doesnt pay us enough for this crap. For all I care we could name it after a dismal spanish holiday camp and pap it out on the market ASAP to see what kind of poor gullible chump will go for it just cos it's "stretch line". Hell, if nothing else it will be a good exercise in market research.

- Elderly colleague who to this point has sat up the back of the room saying nothing and biding his time:

Dismal spanish holiday camp ehhh. Smithers! Get me del Área Recreativa Monte Frío's licensing department on the phone.

And so the montefrio was born

and if you dont believe me check out the link

http://www.montefrio.web.com/

forgive me my rant. Perhaps everyone will think it is brilliant and it is just my preference for x-metal and wires which led me to write this.

Comments anyone.

Uh - I kind of like them. If they were the only kind of design Oakley had then it would be another issue altogether, but they're not, so I think they fit fine into the lineup.

They're kind of look like what I thought they might actually. I kind of like them too. But the colorways listed aren't very exciting though. They seem to be the typical initial release ones.

Now if we could only get some more info. on the Jigsaw!!

Yeah - Olive Tortoise may be cool though. I'm glad the Black has Black Iridium. Black/Grey would be boring in this model.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Like I said before, Montefrio is the street Shaun White grew up on.

I'm down with it and can't wait for it to hit. I think all the colorways look pretty kick ass. Esp Brown/Brown Gradient. The Olive Tort is nice, but more so just okay.

Yeah I think to me the Brown/Brown Gradient would be the ones to get first off. I guess since I just bought a pair of Rootbeer frames and the Black/Black just seems typical. The colorways didn't jump out at me. Even though I am curious to see the Olive Tort.

I always liked the Montefrio and the latest image shows it off nicely. I think it'll do well, they look really smart and will hopefully give Stretchline a good boost.

Looks very feminine....something actresses (called actors nowadays?) would wear while walking down the red carpet.

Eh, the preview of the frames don't generate any interest on my end. If they bring out a interesting frame colour (like Fatcat had with the Blue Camo) or an interesting lens colour, I'll probably skip this one.

Dann you're such a tease! Where'd you get that image from?

It's actually hard to see Olive in thr Olive Tort frame, but in person I'm sure it'll show. When you see it next to Brown Tort in pics it just looks like a darker brown.

Yeah I see what you mean Phil. I think it's between the Dark Brown and maybe the Olive Tort. for me personally.

EDIT:
Are there any other models avaialble in Dark Brown or Olive Tort.? I've been mainly an X-Metal/wire/FMJ fan until lately so I'm not real versed on my O-Matter like I wish I was.

I really like them! They're like stylized Gascans with a Bottlecappish Earstem & I bet they'll look great on people! All the naysayers on this thread mark my words, you will want them someday! All it takes is a few people to get excited about them & a few images of members wearing them & that's all she wrote! You'll be hooked! I see the price in GBP but what will the USD price be? BTW, Dann, that's a nice little teaser. How long have you been sitting on that one?
