Well, given that I can't purchase every pair I try on, there have been some that just simply "got away."
These are frames that while trying on, decided I wanted to buy at a later date. Then, either had trouble finding, or trouble finding for a reasonable price.
Most recent ones that comes to mind is red shift hijinx and ducati square wires. Also, the grape/grey stretchline gascans for my girlfriend. I know these aren't the most obscure, hense why at the time, I didn't think twice about waiting.
Also, I remember seeing OTT's and Medusa's in stores back in the day (and honestly thought they were more ridiculous then cool, and now I want.)
What have you come across in stores, and just couldn't do it at the time? Or maybe even passed on an ebay auction for something, and just figured; "hey, another one will come around for the same price."
I kick myself for not buying Romeo when they were 'only' $275 (even less on ebay at the time). They were still available around the time I bought my first Juliet, right before the serial numbers stopped. I considered Romeo, but didn't get them because of how big they were.
I also kick myself for not buying the original Juliet with Ruby, when it came out for the first X-men. I think the discounted ebay price was like $275-$300. I was able to somewhat make up for that two years ago by getting a plain Juliet x-metal, and the Ruby lenses separately to frankenstein together. I like the batch that I received, but we all know that the original Ruby lenses are way better than the cost-effectively produced ones that are available now.
Right now, I'm trying to work on acquiring one of each piece from the Over the Top family (Valve, Scar, Plate, OTT, and Unknown). I missed out on all those since I was in college during that time and had very little cash flow.
Polarized emerald C wires on eBay like 5 years ago. They went for under $200. Now I can't even find a pair, and if I did, I'm sure they'd sell for more than that.
yellow eyeshade with orange/fire iridium lense when they first came out, parents wouldnt let me buy them coz of the cost, they let me get the razor blades instead-i should have kicked up a stink as these now are hard to get hold of in good condition
one of my ex-colleagues tried to sell me his Polished/Ice Juliets, I wasn't fussed on the shade of blue but looking back the frames were in really good condition and I wish I'd got them...I find comfort by reminding myself they weren't plasma because I prefer that finish
A guy wanted to sell me some Ruby OTT's many years ago for aprox. 120 usd. But I said I won't wear them, so I passed. Ever since I found OR I have nightmares with the OTT and I know I will never be this lucky again.
Having worked in a Vault, I have a myriad of items that I kick myself for passing on. For example, when we opened the store, we had two khaki Flight Deck hats, and I was the one who transferred them to the Chicago Vault, not fully understanding what I had in my hands at the time. We also had about three big boxes of Small Icon Bags in every color that I thought we'd never sell, but the price dropped and suddenly, they were gone (actually, my wife kicks me for this one).
I did, however, snag the only pair of pristine Romeo I's that came on DE, and the only L/XL Medusa that ever came in the store, and that's basically turning a frown upside down.
The leather wrapped Mars. I wanted them when Fight Club came out, but not enough moolah to go around. When I had a bit more cash the Juliets caught my eye more, so I spent a wad on those instead. Someday, maybe.
