I don't know if this has been covered in an earlier post or in another thread...

I just read an article on James Cameron's "Avatar" in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. I'm sure some people on this forum (ie, Phil) is eagerly awaiting the release.

I won't go into a lot of details. It seems Earth has run out of oil, and on a moon called Pandora there is a mineral called...Unobtainium.

Hmmm....Homage to Oakley, blatant ripoff of patented technology, or honest mistake? Discuss.

The term unobtainium existed before Oakley used it in the naming of their products.

I'm looking forward to this. Apparently Cameron developed an entirley new way to film 3D or something. Plus Sam "He's from Perth" Worthington is the lead.

Been following this movie for a while in the blogs... Rumour is it's cost half a Bil.. Dunno but it does look cool.

I, however, am waiting for Book of Eli. He sports Inmates all the way through it. It's an Oakley movie.

And in the end, that's all that matters.

Half a billion dollars. Wow. Then again, they'd recoup their investment and more if the idea of 3D without silly glasses is pulled off. Early reviews are very positive.

That movie is AWESOME !

I've watched it Tuesday in a 3D-able cinema and the result is really amazing. One of the best movies I've seen lately.

Forgive my lack of input. What exactly is this whole new 3D thing, and for those who have seen it, and the standard 3D, how does it compare?

Ok - guess it was just 300K. Really low budget flick.

Hoping to catch it this weekend in the theaters with my O 3D shades... I may be a dork but at least I'll be an Oakley dork.

Just saw AVATAR and it was bad ass!!! I felt torn thru the movie though. Do you root for the Marines or for the Na'vi race. LOL. Anywho, great movie.

It was another excellent directing job by Cameron, though it started off slow. I was impressed by the 3D effects as well. The last time I was this impressed with 3D effects was with another Cameron creation, T2 3D.

Nik, how did the Oakley 3D glasses work?

This thing's at $2B worldwide now. Crazy. Never underestimate the power of James Cameron.

My folks went and tried to see it over the weekend at a local IMAX / 3D spot - and the time slot they went for was sold out. Pretty amazing to think that times are still selling out this many weeks later.

Do they show this in 2d at all? My color blindness makes 3d a blurry mess for me...

this is Similar 3d as used in the Jim Carey CHristmas Carol movie. Excellent 3d. Both movies were much more immersive in the 3D experience than other 3D movies.

As for avatar- I gave up on watching it on IMAX. As stated before, still sold out whenever I want to go. The animation is so good I forgot after a bit that I was watching a partially animated movie.
