I don't know if this has been covered in an earlier post or in another thread...
I just read an article on James Cameron's "Avatar" in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. I'm sure some people on this forum (ie, Phil) is eagerly awaiting the release.
I won't go into a lot of details. It seems Earth has run out of oil, and on a moon called Pandora there is a mineral called...Unobtainium.
Hmmm....Homage to Oakley, blatant ripoff of patented technology, or honest mistake? Discuss.
I'm looking forward to this. Apparently Cameron developed an entirley new way to film 3D or something. Plus Sam "He's from Perth" Worthington is the lead.
Half a billion dollars. Wow. Then again, they'd recoup their investment and more if the idea of 3D without silly glasses is pulled off. Early reviews are very positive.
It was another excellent directing job by Cameron, though it started off slow. I was impressed by the 3D effects as well. The last time I was this impressed with 3D effects was with another Cameron creation, T2 3D.
My folks went and tried to see it over the weekend at a local IMAX / 3D spot - and the time slot they went for was sold out. Pretty amazing to think that times are still selling out this many weeks later.
this is Similar 3d as used in the Jim Carey CHristmas Carol movie. Excellent 3d. Both movies were much more immersive in the 3D experience than other 3D movies.
As for avatar- I gave up on watching it on IMAX. As stated before, still sold out whenever I want to go. The animation is so good I forgot after a bit that I was watching a partially animated movie.
