I’d rather just have titanium eyewear produced in the traditional way and have it more affordable, but environmental and climate change impacts will require different production methods in the future, all costs of which will be passed onto the consumer. - Oak
They could farm out to an existing industry established company that has the tooling and process already in place to be conscious of any emerging "climate change" fear inspired regulations. Ti alloy is stated to be somewhere about $363/kg for 3d printing, that's a lot of frames per lb. that can be had when ordered in bulk when it's a multi-part frame. At least the Mclaren's (I saw $5500 msrp) were a single piece frame, so there is a ton more complex things driving the price up in addition to it being just 25 pieces.
Hopefully it's not a case of Lamborghini taking a Cervelo road bike you can buy for $12K and putting custom sticker/paint on it and charging $18K because it "limited" like they did a couple years ago. It boils down to did Oakley actually use titanium in this Mars project or did they pull another Badman/Madman bring back the X-metal line with lesser materials.
