$850?! What the?! - JP

The Xeus was almost 600, I don’t think $850 is out of line at all, especially considering inflation.

I hear ya. I wasn’t complaining on the Forum, just thinking out loud:) and I do consider the cost of everything but then Oakleys QC comes in to play and sometimes it’s not worth the extra money. Once again just thinking out loud! :D

They're pushing us further and further away. More money for M-Experiment and other hobbies I suppose now. I wasn't going to grab one of these or attempt to but I'm still shaking my head. I think, I'm fighting it, but... I just might be starting to lose some respect for the brand. Never thought I would say that. I've been almost blindly loyal. I get the high-end pieces. I get the limited runs. But this, as a very good friend told me, is more about getting people talking and marketing.

It's not about the Oakley fan. Which is unfortunate.

Agree with you. Am sure the bots will go nuts over this and several will be for sale on eBay within minutes for $3000+. Wish there was a way to keep the release closed to collectors first, then open it up. They have a list of MVPs and others, could send a link. At $2300, not in my interest to buy at all $5-700, I’d think about it, but probably just put next to my original Mars in one of my cases

Couldn't agree more. I know Oakley is a luxury brand, but in the past, it was still possible to get even higher-end glasses on a "normal person's" budget, as long as those purchases were not too frequent. There were always options in the $90-$150 range for those of us on stricter budgets. Now, anything worth buying from a style/technology standpoint is well over $200. Even t-shirts are $35 these days.

I’m guessing the price is $850 with 5000 units. Too many stores have confirmed that. And people with inside info. Now there is conflicting info. I jaunt hope they will be under $1000

If it is this value of 2.3, does anyone risk how many units will be available?
I'll just have to stick with my old Mars Leather...

The price is certainly unfortunate, but it’s even more unfortunate the pricing is not too out-of-line with current industry trends.

The eyewear industry is certainly testing consumers’ willingness to invest in limited, sustainable titanium. It all comes at a cost, of course. I posted on IG about Nick Fury’s 3D printed titanium eyewear in the “Secret Invasion” show from Hoet Couture. Those are 2,000 Euro each. Porsche Design put out their limited 3D printed titanium pair called the P’8950 50Y, and those sold out online at $1,800 each. McLaren did their 3D printed unibody frame for 4,000 Euro each. The only difference is Oakley designed Mars decades ago, so there’s no costs with that, but overall 3D printed titanium eyewear is not inexpensive right now, unfortunately.

Of course, the cheaply designed stuff with less materiel is out there and is accessible. POC did their limited 3D printed titanium pair called the Elicit Ti for $400. Granted, it was just the arms that were printed since it was a shield design, but it was affordable. Rolf Spectacles have their pairs at 600 Euro each, but the designs are super simplistic.

I’d rather just have titanium eyewear produced in the traditional way and have it more affordable, but environmental and climate change impacts will require different production methods in the future, all costs of which will be passed onto the consumer.

They could farm out to an existing industry established company that has the tooling and process already in place to be conscious of any emerging "climate change" fear inspired regulations. Ti alloy is stated to be somewhere about $363/kg for 3d printing, that's a lot of frames per lb. that can be had when ordered in bulk when it's a multi-part frame. At least the Mclaren's (I saw $5500 msrp) were a single piece frame, so there is a ton more complex things driving the price up in addition to it being just 25 pieces.

Hopefully it's not a case of Lamborghini taking a Cervelo road bike you can buy for $12K and putting custom sticker/paint on it and charging $18K because it "limited" like they did a couple years ago. It boils down to did Oakley actually use titanium in this Mars project or did they pull another Badman/Madman bring back the X-metal line with lesser materials.
