Do you already have them on hand? Or do you just have the information?

Not serialized means there will be a good number produced! Might be easier to get than previously thought then. I kinda suspected this when third party retailers will be carrying the Mars. Same deal with the MUZM subzeros where everyone wanting one got one.

Still not going to get a pair for $2,300 though.

If I didn't have my Mars Crater I'd be more tempted - but I'm still not sure I'd be getting these even if I didn't already have those because of the price. Definitely a classic pair, iconic, out of the box thinking, amazing stuff. But does the new direct laser sintering process cost more than the six-ton generator with 425,000 watts of power did back in the day to make these? Even with inflation?

25 years later/inflation + direct laser instead of 5-axis machining + cool box/packaging and new coin + a limited run + "MUZM" status = a $1985 price increase?

Hmmmm...

If Oakleys QC hadn’t been garbage over many years I would be tempted. But to spend that kind of money on something that may not even be serialized… no thanks. JMHO:)

I’m shocked there is this much demand for the MUZM Mars. I didn’t think it is at all an attractive offering, but I’m getting old and out of touch with you younguns. Nevertheless, it may be we’re locked in at $2k + X-metals now. There may be some cool things coming out in the next year or two; some of which have been hiding in plain sight and some of which is yet to be revealed. No, I can’t say what they are but this is a heads up as a courtesy. Hold onto your wallet.

Yeah I couldn't justify 2300 for these. I can get originals for less.

My set arrived on Thursday...

Overall, I am pleased with them but there are a couple of things I need to raise with Oakley....
My pair has mis-matched temple shocks which shows a lack of attention to detail or a lack of understanding of the product. Other pairs I have seen are the same...
A spare set of rubber parts would have been expected at the price.
These should have been serialised - no question. I have been in touch with customer services to at least let me know total numbers produced, so far with no answer (but they are trying to find out).

The packaging is a slight upgrade on the previous Muzm releases but could have been even better. A perforated sleeve in the style of the originals wraps a large main box - I have addes a pic with a Muzm Racing Jacket for comparison.

My idea of the perfect presentation would have been an original dimention two part box being stored inside an oversize X-Metal vault like the first Romeos were released in.

Here is a pic for size comparison of the box - Muzm Racing Jacket on top

Wow, that temple shock oversight is shocking - considering there aren't spares in the package (and there absolutely should be).

A matching micro would’ve been nice too instead of a plain black one. Congrats on the pickup Mark

Looks great, but surprised at those oversights. Increments of 15 - 75 should have been mandatory.

Here is my question, how can a copy or replica of an original be worth 2 times more than the original item? That’s my big problem with this, and how did Oakley think 2300 was a good price? I’ve talked to several older employees and just asked politely some questions and none of them can understand the price knowing what the originals sell for. I’m not trying to start shirt I’m just making a point. I just can’t see how the justify 2300 on a remake

They could have powder 3D printed these. My buddy works at a factory that does it and I’ve been working with him to try and produce a solid aluminum Holbrook printed from powder and just printing one will only cost a couple hundred

I don't think there's any good logical argument for a $2,300 Mars even if EssiLux opens up their books and shows us the numbers. Nevermind the cost of the printers, the cost to print the item or the lack of traditional economies of scale. But this is a small scale luxury product play, and luxury products rarely make sense on the cost level. A company will sell a $2 item for $100k if there is demand for it. Oakley leveraged the natural demand for the Mars, manufactured more demand and then set the price they think they can get for it, which collectors (in various sectors, not just eyewear) bought into willingly. The only hope now is that any potential future print X-metals will follow the pricing of the Frogskin Ti (limited proto for about $2,000 vs. regular release for a little over $400, though they were made in a factory with traditional Japanese manufacturing techniques).

I think as long as they sell out, the prices will continue to remain high. The average Oakley wearer isn't going to want a Mars, but a handful of collectors will. To bridge the gap, they release a low count at a high price and then the proof is in the sales. I have my originals, and I haven't really been interested in paying that much for pretty much anything, so I just sort of look at them from afar without much investment.

If it cost Oakley more than 2300 per pair to make these they don’t know what they are doing.

I just can’t believe we’ve gone this far without folks recalling the $50 leather mars at the parking lot sale! Not that I was there myself, but some things you just can’t forget. LOL
